My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

LOUIE : almost 6 month old neutered male Black Lab mix 55 - 60 lbs (and still growing)

Louie says “Hi, I’m Louie! Wanna play? I love to play and run and eat. I didn’t get a chance to do all this when I was littler because I was living in a park in Suisun by myself. I did find another kind dog to help me for awhile, nevertheless it was a scary time and there was never enough to eat. One day a nice guy in a uniform came and picked me up and took me to a place called a shelter. Boy, was it noisy. The staff there was great to me, I was safe and got regular meals, but I hardly ever got out to play.

Then Lab Rescue came and looked at ME! Within a few days, I went for a car ride to a house in the country where there are two other Labs, three kids, chickens, goats, and a wonderful lady and man who are my foster parents. I don’t bother the chickens, they are just dumb birds. I play and run with the kids and with my Lab foster brother, and leave my Lab sister alone (she is older and grouchy). I am learning many new things – how to sit when asked (got it all the time now, and even shake when I sit), come when they call my name (sometimes I like to pretend I don’t hear them), walk on a leash (still learning), sleep in a crate (took me lots of tries before my mom was satisfied). They tell me I have a lot more to learn to be “a good boy” and I really want to keep learning. I have been happy here with my foster family, but now I need to find my forever family. Lab Rescue said they would help me.”

Louie is a delightful, healthy, happy, and very playful guy. He is still growing (has humongous feet) and gaining weight. His training is progressing well, and we are looking for a family who understands the importance of structure, routine, and ongoing formal training to help him develop into a well-mannered, secure adult dog. He is so much an exuberant puppy, will chew inappropriate items unless taught what is his, can be a bit mouthy and will jump up in his excitement, but getting better. Louie needs many opportunities to run off his energy, and will benefit from firm and loving leadership. Because he is a large puppy and will be a big dog, solid leash training is critical. We would like any children in his new home to be six or older, able to understand Louie’s need for structure, and to be an integral part of his training. Louie loves other dogs, so if there are none in his new home, it is important that he be given ample opportunities to continue to socialize and play with other dogs. He is untested with cats, but would likely overwhelm them. He is neutered, up to date on shots, and on heartworm and flea prevention. Louie is located in the Brentwood/Oakley area.

If you have the time and energy to commit to this loving puppy to help him develop into that once in a lifetime dog, please call (leave a message) GGLRR Lab Rescue Rep, Dale at 510-333-2629.

(Please keep in mind we are all volunteers, most of us work full time and we all have personal lives. I do call everyone back within 2-3 days so please be patient and I will be back in touch with you. When the dogs are in foster homes then it may take longer as we need to touch base with the fosters for updates on the dogs. We work very hard to make the right matches for the dogs and for the new owners. We get 3-5 dogs per week and we do not have a facility that we keep the dogs housed in. They are scattered all over the Bay Area.)
