My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

Sweet, playful, and ball-driven, Darla LOVES to play fetch and wrestle with her foster (dog) sister. She also enjoys walks and would make a good jogging partner. She is also very good at hide and seek with a ball or other desired toy that interests her. She was found in a park in the Fifth Ward, starving and missing a lot of fur, but she's come such a long way in a short period of time. She's finally able to be a happy, go-lucky lab! Darla is 2-3 years old and weighs about 60 lbs. She is spayed, house-trained, crate-trained, and current on vaccinations. She is currently heartworm positive, but undergoing slow-kill treatment.

Darla is sometimes scared of men, especially if they raise their voice. She will move to a location that is out of sight of the person who is making her afraid. But overall she has been great with the few new people she has met so far, including preteens and teenagers, unknown about younger kids at this time. Darla is good with other dogs. She seems to want to greet every dog she meets and is always submissive when she is allowed to greet them. Her tolerance for cats is unknown at this time, but she'll be tested soon.

Darla's ideal guardian/home will be one that has the time and interest in making her a full member of their family. She deserves a family that will play with her; complete her obedience training; take her to dog parks; and give her a purpose (i.e. continue her training). Preferably a home with a yard for running around, chasing squirrels and playing fetch. Darla has a typical Labrador personality. She would make a good companion dog or possibly a search & rescue dog.

If you, or someone you know, is interested in adopting Darla, please fill out an adoption application on our website at http://forgottendogs.org/adoption_application Thanks!
