My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

Dalton is a typical Boxer. He is a big clown with a silly smile and always a wagging tail to greet his people. He is good with people of all ages however with his energy level he may be too much for young children. He is not good with small animals and does have a prey drive. Dalton is an adult dog approximately 4 - 5 years old. He weighs just under 60 lbs.

Here is what his foster family had to say:

Dalton is a sweet and snuggly dog who just wants to be around his pack. He loves to sleep and cuddle on the couch. He walks well on a slip leash with someone who is a strong leader. He will sometimes pull a little but understands corrections. We're at the point now where if I snap my fingers during a walk he knows he's got to slow it down a bit. He'd be a great candidate for clicker training because he responds well to finger snapping. He is stubborn but sweet, non destructive, can be left out of his crate when you leave the home. He will pace and wine some, but eventually settles. He never toilets in the house ever and has never destroyed anything. In fact he is not a big chewer overall even with his toys. Despite how great he is with people, cats, rabbits, or any small animal will not be safe in the home. Dalton's prey drive is HIGH.

He's good with kids but sometimes knocks them over. He's not a huge jumper but he does like to jump up to put his front paws on you. I'm working on the understanding that this is only acceptable when it is invited. He is good with people in general. No aggressive behaviour toward people, including food aggression. You could take food right out of his mouth if you wanted to. He exhibits some shyness and nervousness on occasion with men, still seems a bit unsure but makes continued progress. it does not inhibit him in any major way.

Dalton sleeps a ton, loves to snuggle up. His favourite thing to do is snuggle up nice and close to you and pass out. When he does want to play he likes to body slam you. He runs at you and turns his body sideways as he slams into you. Very puppy like rough housing but it's not often. He is a very quiet dog, I have never heard Dalton bark.

He knows sit but is just learning most of his basic commands. Like most Boxers, he is resistant unless you have a reward for him such as a treat or a favourite toy. No need to use the term drop it as he relinquishes anything in his mouth when I try to take it from him (which makes for a boring game of tug of war) but he does understand drop it. He is fully house trained. Has never had a single accident. He does not like being crated. This dog will behave better out of crate as he does not exhibit destructive behaviours. However becomes agitated in his crate. Because our crate is rather small for him to sleep in, we baby gate him to the first floor of the house instead to keep the cats safe, and he is EXTREMELY well behaved. I come downstairs in the morning and he is waiting patiently on the couch for me. I don't hear a peep from him all night. Walks fairly well on a leash but I suggest a slip leash because he will pull a bit with someone who is not a strong leader. He will also pull for prey and other dogs. I give him a corrective tug and he falls in line. He is very well behaved in the car.

Dalton is an affectionate dog who needs to be in close personal contact with his human. He makes a point of touching you whenever possible. For example if you hold out your hand he will likely place his chin in it and relax...leaving you holding the weight of his giant head! Sweet and wonderful and probably would benefit from having a home with an additional dog to keep him company when his people are at work so that he has company and someone to play with while his person is away.

If you think Dalton would be a good fit for your situation, please submit an application for consideration.
