My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

Hi, my name is Jaxson, Jax for short, and I am a friendly and playful 1 year old Labrador cross. I look mostly like a Lab except I am not as tall or big, although I do have some filling out to do. I weigh about 50lbs right now. I have a very soft and shiny mixed coat of gold and darker brown and deep brown eyes that are always looking for affection. I ended up in the pound as I was a stray. No one from my previous family bothered to claim me and I don’t know why, I am a good dog. Thankfully I was rescued and I am loving my foster home, but all I really want is a home to call my own forever.
I love to play with my foster mom and I am great at playing fetch with my toys. Playing rope is fun too and I never get aggressive or possessive of my toys. I just always want someone to play with! My breed is a working dog and needs to be mentally and physically stimulated.
I love going outside! My foster Mom takes me for runs that I like because it really gets all my energy out; but I also love long mellow walks. I love to smell everything and love seeing people and animals on my adventures! I don't bark at dogs I just happily wag my tail hoping they'll want to play with me. Sometimes I get to say hi, and I do so very nicely but sometimes they are across the road and I can't say hi. Then I look at my foster Mom and cry because I want to play! Even squirrels and birds are fun to watch and I wish they were bigger so we could be friends and play. I am a happy, good natured boy, and want to be friends with everyone and everything.
Playing with other dogs is fun and I love to chase them around and wander around outside with them. I would do well in a home with another young and playful dog, but I would do equally well being the only dog in my home and getting all the attention. I would need dog friends though to keep up my socialization and provide an outlet for my desire to play. I haven’t met a cat yet so I don’t know what I think of them.
I am getting used to being on a leash and trying my best not to pull too much. Mom says I'm doing a great job! I’m also great in the car. Car rides are so fun and I just love having my nose out the window to sniff the air and feel the breeze between my ears! I will go anywhere with you as it leads to adventure and new smells.
I am looking for a home with someone or a family that can be very active with me and ideally have a backyard I can run around in. But please don't leave me in the backyard alone, I would hate that. I want my people with me and besides, I'd like to play fetch or chase one another around if we have a nice, fenced in yard. I would love to have a family member that would run with me if possible. I would be a great running partner and motivational aid. Let’s work out together! But if there isn’t a runner in my family then I would need someone to take me for long walks and play sessions every day. I would do great with children too but older than 12 years as I am big, young and active. I may be too playful for small children and I would hate to accidentally knock over a small child.
I know how to sit, and shake a paw with both paws! I love getting cookies for my tricks and talents but I really just like getting the praise from my foster Mom. I am really good with my food and am not aggressive towards my food bowl, I'm a pretty easy going guy. I am very food motivated so I train easily when positive reinforcement methods are used. I will need a family that will continue my training at dog school. I am young and getting a great start in my foster home but I need continued training so that I mature into a well behaved and well socialised dog. I love training and will be a star in class, I just know it.
My foster Mom lets me sleep in her bed at night and I really love it. I like to keep my eye on her and be where she is. I always seem to have dream and twitch in my sleep, she says it is funny to watch.
I love, love getting my head scratched and will always nuzzle you with my head for some affection. I also try and sit on my foster Mom's lap even though my foster Mom say's I'm not a puppy anymore, but I sure feel like one. Playing on the floor is my favourite, I go on my back with all my legs straight to get rubbed and tickled! Whenever I am happy I have my tongue hanging out to the right, am I'm always happy so my tongue hangs out a lot!
I am house trained and crate trained so should be an easy fit into my forever home. I also have a dog bed that I love to curl up on. I would love one of those in my new home. I am left in my crate when my foster mom leaves the house as I am a young Lab and she doesn’t fully trust that I won’t get into mischief when she is gone. This is probably a good plan. I hope to find a forever home that is very loving and active. I want a place where I can get the attention I deserve and a loyal best friend that I can go on adventures with!
An adoption donation of $400 is required. This helps cover our costs for veterinary care including spay/neuter, vaccines, microchip, heartworm test, deworming and whatever else the dog may require.
