Katie's Story...
Katie - Mini Shih Tzu - 8-9 yrs old - female /spayed - Katie is 9 lbs of
cuteness - a little reserved as are most Shih Tzus, but is friendly and
gets along with both 2 legged and 4 legged creatures and size does not
intimidate her. She is initially a little shy and of course we don't
know her history, but with a little patience, a lot of contact, cuddling
and positive words she warms up. When Katie was rescued her coat was so
badly tangled and matted that her face was hidden and she was just a
round hairy ball so it was necessary to give her a very close haircut
but as you can see she is a great looking little dog. Like most Shih
Tzus she does not shed but will need periodic grooming to avoid the
tangled mats. In addition, she needed some dental work and is missing
a few teeth but manages very well with dry kibble with a little soft
food mixed in. Katie is crate and house trained and is well behaved in
the home so she is seldom crated. She is non-aggressive but would
probably do best in an adult household. We have done a best guess
estimate on her age but she is pretty active so she may be younger that
we think. Katie is a wonderful companion, is undemanding, wants to
please and within a short time could become your best furry friend. If
you are within the San Antonio metrocom area and would like to meet
Katie please respond to

Why Adoption is a Great Option

Katie, a San Antonio Shih Tzu dog was adopted! Here's how you can benefit by looking at adoption as an option to buying a Shih Tzu for sale in San Antonio, or seeking a Shih Tzu dog from a breeder in San Antonio.

  1. Rescues and shelter volunteers in San Antonio already know the personality and tendencies of their pets. This means they can match you with the right pet. That will makes it much easier transition to owning a pet for yourself and your new pet.
  2. On average adoption fees are much less than you'd pay a San Antonio breeder, or pet store. Plus most often rescue pets have already been to the veterinarian for a check-up, had a round of vaccinations, and are spayed or neutered. That is a lot of savings!
  3. You will become a hero, and give a needy dog or cat a loving home. In fact, there are even Shih Tzu breeders who help with Shih Tzu rescue. One puppy or kitten adopted in San Antonio paves the way for another one to be saved.
