Amelia is a 5 year old, pure bred boxer. She is spayed, UTD on her shots and microchipped.

Amelia is a very smart, sweet girl who came to POET as an owner surrender when her family fell on hard times. Although she loves people it takes her a while to trust them and therefor will require time and patience when adjusting to a new home.

Amelia has kept us on our toes since she's been with us. She took a one week adventure late last year, after escaping the vet's office during a potty break, over a 6 foot wall. Her escapade took her approximately 15 miles from her original location. After being caught she suffered from severe anxiety. She has come a long way since then, even completing a 6 week obedience class. She is still cautious about new situations and can be verbal and pace when nervous. She suffers separation anxiety but with time, patience and structure she will adjust.

Amelia is selective about other dogs. She would do best as an only dog or possibly a laid back dog. She would not do well with high energy or in your face dogs. A meet n greet is a must. Although she has been fostered with cats, she is not a fan. It would be preferred she go to a home without cats or small animals. Amelia is wonderful with children.

Due to her ability to jump fences, Amelia will require a 6 foot privacy fence AND constant supervision when outdoors.

Amelia also suffers from seizures. Despite testing, the cause has not been diagnosed and therefor she is not medicated at this time. She is on daily medication for hyperthyroidism and allergies. UPDATE 6/28/14: Amelia has been on natural supplements and essential oils to help with her anxiety and seizures. They seem to be helping. We will update as we continue this treatment.

Amelia is a great dog despite her obstacles. She needs to trust above all else and once you gain that the rest falls into place. She has good days and bad days and will require a family who will stick with her through it all.
