My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

Duke is a 7-8 year old black lab who was found in the country severely emaciated and nearly dead. Duke was unable to even walk. He was taken to the local animal emergency and was found to also have distemper. The volunteers thought he would die before they could get him to the hospital. He was in very serious condition. Duke spent 2 weeks in the ER surrounded by love and compassion. Duke is a fighter, and he fought hard. He fought his way back to wellness. He fought so hard that he was released to a wonderful foster home to begin his road to recovery. For days, all Duke wanted to do was find a soft spot to rest. Finally, Duke began to show what an amazingly sweet and loving dog he is. He is a very mellow, happy guy. His tail wags just at the sight of someone coming near him. Duke is such a lover! As time has gone by, he has put on some weight and gotten more kick in his step. His favorite time of the day is meal time! He gets so excited that you would think he was a puppy again. Duke is fantastic with kids and has so much patience. All he wants is to just rest near you, preferably with his head in your lap. He is a wonderful, loving, happy boy who is so happy to be in a house with a family who are showing him love. He is wonderful with other dogs, but not known about cats. Duke is completely house trained. He is up to date on shots and neutered. Not surprising that Duke was heartworm positive. He has been treated for this and is now heartworm free. However, he will need to be on preventative year round for the rest of his life. Duke deserves a wonderful forever home that will hold him dear in his golden years. He has been through a great deal. And we want the perfect home for him. If you would like to fill out an online application for this incredible boy, please go to www.k9kindnessrescue.org to do that. Duke thanks you for your prayers and the love shown to him by everyone who donated to help him get well! Duke and K9 Kindness thank you for considering adoption through rescue for a new family companion!
