My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

Papa Merlin found himself in our local animal control facility. He was surrendered by his owner but we are not sure why. Merlin is a excellent dog! He is good with cats, dogs of all sizes and people of all ages. Although he will bark at men when he first meets them, after some introductory pets he warms right up. We would not recommend him to a home with small children just because of his age. He's a sweetheart and will let you hold him like a baby so that he can get his belly rubbed and give you sweet kisses on the chin. He is house trained and know how to use a pet door. If no pet door is available, he will wait by the door to let you know that he needs to go outside. We think Papa Merlin is around 10 years old and may be a Scottish Terrier Mix. He would love to be in a home where he has a nice soft bed to nap in and a person that will give him all the love he needs in his golden years. Merlin is up to date on all his vaccines (parvo, distemper, hepatitis and parainfluenza), kennel cough and rabies vaccination. He is heartworm negative, takes a monthly heartworm preventative and monthly flea preventative. He would love to bring a little magic into your life with his little terrier personality! We are listing Merlin as a Senior Special with a reduced adoption fee of $300. Do you think Papa Merlin would be the one you are looking for? Email today for an application!
Please, you MUST visit the following link BEFORE emailing for further information. If you'd like to find out more information about our adoption procedure or to apply for this dog visit http://www.poochesonthemove.net/dixie-pet-underground.html

Or e-mail adoptions@dixiepetunderground.org to request an adoption application, or visit our website at www.dixiepetunderground.org.

Once we receive your complete application, an adoption counselor will call you within 48 hours of receipt of the application. During the adoption interview, the adoption counselor will tell you more about the dog/puppy and our adoption processes, as well as answer any questions you have.

Dogs and puppies are up-to-date on their vaccinations, spayed/neutered, de-wormed, treated for fleas/ticks and heartworm negative before leaving rescue. You will receive complete medical records for your dog and puppy at the time of adoption.

The adoption fee is $450 and covers the cost of all veterinary care and transportation to your area.

Our dogs and puppies are delivered via a USDA-certified van transport and receive an Interstate Health Certificate -- issue by a licensed, accredited veterinarian -- no more than 10 days before the dog or puppy leaves rescue.

All of our dogs and puppies come into rescue from the "death row" of animal shelters in the south, or are owner surrenders or strays who were "pound bound" before coming into rescue. Adopting a dog or puppy from the Dixie Pet Underground Railroad means you are truly part of a partnership to save the life of the dog or puppy that you welcome into your family.

Our dogs or puppies are fostered at our rescue in Tennessee, meaning that it isn't possible to meet the dog or puppy before adoption. Our adoption counselor works with you to do everything possible to ensure that there is a good match between the family and the dog. We have had several hundred dogs adopted using this process and most of the time, it results in happy puppies and happy people.

If for any reason an adoption is not successful, the Dixie Pet Underground Railroad will work with the adopter to find the best possible solution for the dog and the adopting family.

We can provide contact information for adopters in your area who can tell you about their experience partnering with the Underground Railroad to save the life of a dog and make the animal a part of their family.

We look forward to hearing from you and working with you to find the right dog for your family!
