My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

Meet Tanner, a playful pup at heart! Tanner is a 65lb neutered male shepherd mix who is approximately 3-5 years old. He is very well-behaved, and knows his “sit” and “down” commands. Tanner is very playful, and loves his toys almost as much as he loves, loves, loves people. He plays very well in the yard with other female dogs at the shelter. He has not spent time around small dogs while at the shelter, but he is very interested in small animals, including birds. Since he is likely to chase them, his forever home should not include small animals like cats or birds.

Taking Tanner for a walk is one of the cutest things you’ll ever see. When it’s time to go, he will take the leash in his mouth and “walk the walker” past the kennels to get outside. He doesn’t bite or yank on the leash, he simply likes to have it in his mouth until he can get outside where the good smells are. He walks at a good clip, so his walking buddy should share his love of brisk outdoor adventures. Tanner also loves to play. At times, he gets so excited that he becomes mouthy during play time, but he does not bite.

Since Tanner has spent over a year, patiently waiting at the shelter, he’s had plenty of time to think about his dream home. He thinks it should include a female doggie friend to play with, a fenced yard to romp around in, and a nice warm bed where he can watch TV. Because he loves people so much, he would also do well in a home as an only pet. If your home sounds like the one he is looking for, contact the shelter to schedule a play date with this handsome fellow!

Del Norte County Animal Control is located in rural Crescent City, CA (a tiny coastal city on the OR/CA border). We have a very small shelter with small indoor 3x6 kennel runs, low foot traffic, odd adoption viewing hours and it rains a lot which means the dogs can’t come outside and play. Please consider making a difference in a dogs life and adopting from our shelter!

Del Norte County Animal Control is located in Crescent City, CA. We are open Monday – Friday from 8am to 5pm. We are closed Saturday and Sunday.
