My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

This super cutie is Kip and he is a 1 yr old Jack Russell Terrier X. What exactly he is mixed with is a bit of a mystery. He is 15lbs and has the predominate look of a Jack but he has the most attractive blue merle patches which is not a colouring typical of terriers. Our initial though was Aust. Cattle Dog but he’s not as thick or big as what you would expect for that mix. Whatever breed has brought this beautiful colouring, it has made for not only a great looking dog but a real sweet temperament and loving little charmer.
Kip makes friends wherever he goes and he is such a likeable little dog he even wins over people who aren’t typically “dog people”. He has such a good personality. He is always happy and wears a big smile and has a wagging tail all the time. Kip is quiet, he rarely barks, which was an unexpected bonus. He loves to snuggle on your lap or sit right beside you on the couch. He is happiest when he is touching you. He will follow you from room to room, never far from his beloved person. Kip ADORES his family. He has a ton of love to give and only asks for a gentle pet or hug in return. He does require a family that will allow him to sit next to them on the furniture. He will sit on the floor if absolutely necessary, but he really desires close personal contact. Kip greets strangers eagerly. In fact, Kip doesn’t know a stranger. Everyone he meets is a new best friend. He is equally charming and good natured with other animals. He is buddies with all of his foster dog siblings and greets other dogs in a friendly manner. He enjoys play with other dogs and loves to run. He would enjoy another well behaved and friendly dog sibling but he would do equally well and in fact would thrive being the only dog and getting all of the attention for himself. Kip is also being fostered with cats. He really enjoys playing with the kitten in his foster home and has no aggression towards the cats. He will chase a cat if it runs from him so if going to a home with a cat it should be a cat that knows not to run from a dog. Kip has also been exposed to horses and he has no fear of them and knows to behave himself around them. We have never seen Kip express aggression or “bad” behaviour with any other animal.
Kip walks well on a leash and doesn’t pull. He trots along at your side and loves going for long walks. He can keep up a brisk pace and would be a great partner for power walks. But he does equally well with a casual pace and will walk for however long you want. He does need daily exercise to remain fit. He is in great shape right now and we want his forever family to keep him in top form. He is a good little eater so could easily be overfed and gain weight. He needs a family that will give him proper portions and keep him exercised. He shows no aggression towards his food bowl and lets you handle him when he is eating. He is not one to beg for food either. Kip knows basic obedience skills and listens quite well. We are looking for a family that will take Kip to obedience school to build on his skills. He has endless potential to learn and will excel with learning new skills. He would even be a great dog for those interested in dog sports as he is agile and athletic.
Kip is good in the car and travels quietly. He has sometimes gotten car sick on trips longer than a half hour so we have learned not to feed him if we know we will be taking a longer car ride. He loves to accompany his family on outings though and with more exposure to car rides we are sure he will adjust and be a great companion for all trips. Kip is house trained and crate trained and is quiet and settled in his crate. He likes to chew on toys and to play with toys. He is a very easy dog to live with and rarely has to be corrected for negative behaviour.
Kip’s ideal home can be one of many options. He would love a house with a fenced yard but would do just as well in a condo or apartment as long as he gets regular walks. Because he is quiet he would be fine in an apartment building setting. He would love a large family where he gets all kinds of attention but would also do well living with a single person and being their sole focus, or anything in between. He is not being fostered with kids but we do feel that he would do well in a home with children as long as they were old enough to be kind and respectful with dogs. He is such a true love of a dog that we won’t consider a home for him where he will be tormented or teased by unruly children.
Kip is a gentle, loving, and sweet little dog. He was abandoned by his previous family for reasons we can’t comprehend. He is such a loyal and trusting dog that being abandoned would have been devastating for him. We are looking for a home for Kip now that will commit to providing him a loving and caring home forever. He will give you his whole heart and will let you know every day how much he cherishes you. He is looking for that same love and loyalty in return. If you have space in your home and your heart for a darling little boy dog then maybe Kip is the perfect choice for your family!
An adoption donation of $400 is required. This helps cover our costs for veterinary care including spay/neuter, vaccines, microchip, heartworm test, deworming and whatever else the dog may require.
