My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

Blake is a very happy 6 month old black Labrador Retriever pup. Her coat is soft and her ears are floppy and her eyes are big and brown. When we were discussing names for her we kept coming back to how pretty and lively she was. We then tossed around the name Blake and thought of the beautiful celebrity Blake Lively and it was a perfect fit! She knows her name very well now and her head will snap up when you say it.

Blake was a stray at a rural animal control facility and was not claimed by her owner. How her previous owner didn't come for her is beyond comprehension. It's for the best though because Blake deserves a family who is as devoted to her as she will be to them. She needs to belong in a home where she will not be allowed to roam free and get lost, and where she can feel safe and be confident.

Blake LOVES to be outside. She is most happy when you are out with her. She is happiest when she knows you are close so she can come and get a short snuggle and then run off again to chase a leaf or a ball or a foster dog. She loves to play ball and will bring it back again and again to you to throw over and over. She loves her special chew toys with treats in them. She also loves playing with her foster dog siblings. Basically Blake likes play in all its forms.

Blake likes to be with you, she will lie on the floor in whatever room you are in, just to hang out. At the end of a busy day, you will find Blake quietly chewing a toy at your feet. Blake has been such a good girl during her stay with us and to top it off has been perfectly housetrained, not a single accident. She is also crate trained and sleeps in her crate at night and stays in her crate when we are away from the house.

Blake would do well in an active home situation. Since she is still a pup, she is learning proper manners indoors and she is doing extremely well. She would do well in a home with a big fenced yard to run and play in. She enjoys her walks and knows that the gentle leader head halter means a walk! We have been using a gentle leader as she is a strong girl and this allows us full control of her with little effort. She will sit and let you put it on her and be ready to go at a moment’s notice. She is walking extremely well on a gentle leader at your side. Blake is being taught basic obedience in her foster home and now knows "sit" and has been taught to sit upon greeting people. She also sits before being fed and knows to “wait” until given the go ahead to eat. Blake is working hard on not jumping up. Blake’s new family should commit to continuing her obedience training to bring out the best in this very smart dog. She is a smart girl and catches on to commands and rules very quickly; she will be a star at obedience school!

Blake is good with dogs and has settled in nicely with her foster dog brother and sister. She watches her big brother and tries to copy him. She would enjoy another young and playful dog in the home but this is not a necessity for her. Blake would do just as well being the only dog and getting all the attention to herself. Blake is also well behaved with the cat and ignores him for the most part and only needing the occasional reminder that she's not allowed to chase him. The cat is used to dogs though so knows better than to run. Blake is not being fostered in a home with children but we believe with her lovely spirit she would do fine with older children.

Everything is new to Blake, but she is willing to experience new things with you. She needs exposure to the world. It seems that her previous owner didn’t take her to many places as everywhere we take her is new to her. Sometimes Blake is initially shy in new places or with new people but if given a moment to check things out and assure herself that all is safe and she is among friends she enjoys herself and makes herself best buddies with everyone. She is just a pup so continued socialization will give her confidence in new situations. She loves to ride in the car and lays down on the back seat and just chills. She is a very easy dog to travel with.

Blake is looking for a forever home to share her love. She is a loveable, fun, and playful pup looking for an active family that loves the outdoors and wants to share adventures with a beautiful Lab. She is up for anything and will be a loyal and loving best friend in the right home. Could this be yours?
