Hershey's Info...

I am already neutered, housetrained, purebred, up to date with shots, good with kids, and good with dogs.

Hershey's Story...
Hershey is a handsome dude, a sweet 5 year old purebred Dachshund, not too big, not too small with unique brindle markings. He’s sweet and cuddly and loves his walks. He gets along with people of all ages but can be shy around some…but never aggressive. He’s potty trained, knows how to use a doggy door, but also knows how to ask to go potty if it is closed.

Hershey is good with other dogs…sometimes barking at big ones when he’s on leash, but fine with them once he meets them. We don’t know how he is with cats…he never met one. He’s not noisy; his barking is limited to greeting people who come to the door.
He needs a fenced yard (not invisible fence) since he’s a hunter by nature. If you love doxies or sweet little dogs, you’ll love this nice boy.

(An adoption donation of $400 is required.) If you are interested in adopting this dog, please fill out the CHEW Adoption Application you can find on our website: If you have previously submitted an application form, there is no need to re-apply. Just let us know you're interested in this dog. We do our best to match families and dogs so everyone is pleased and the placement is permanent. We reserve the right to refuse an applicant if the home situation is incompatible with the needs of the rescue dog. Rescue is about doing our best for the dog. We do home and reference checks.

Why Adoption is a Great Option

Hershey, a Gig Harbor Dachshund dog was adopted! Here's how you can benefit by looking at adoption as an option to buying a Dachshund for sale in Gig Harbor, or seeking a Dachshund dog from a breeder in Gig Harbor.

  1. Rescues and shelter volunteers in Gig Harbor already know the personality and tendencies of their pets. This means they can match you with the right pet. That will makes it much easier transition to owning a pet for yourself and your new pet.
  2. On average adoption fees are much less than you'd pay a Gig Harbor breeder, or pet store. Plus most often rescue pets have already been to the veterinarian for a check-up, had a round of vaccinations, and are spayed or neutered. That is a lot of savings!
  3. You will become a hero, and give a needy dog or cat a loving home. In fact, there are even Dachshund breeders who help with Dachshund rescue. One puppy or kitten adopted in Gig Harbor paves the way for another one to be saved.
