My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

Basil is a 10 1/2 year old male B&G macaw who was with one owner until a non-bird related illness made it necessary for her to give him up. Basil is clearly a people-bird who delights in entertaining and interacting with those around him. He is very clever at engaging people with his playful antics. For example, he plays tug-of-war and “growls” as he tugs, just for fun! He tosses balls for his human to catch, rings his big cowbell, and initiates playing peek-a-boo. Basil has an extensive vocabulary of over 40 words and phrases, most of which he uses to communicate his needs or feelings. He will say “thirsty” for a drink, “night, night” when he wants to go to bed, and “who wants an almond?” when he wants a treat. He shows a species-appropriate level of noise, talking and squawking in the morning after his cover is off and at sundown. He gets along well with men, women and teenagers, shows no fear of a timid cat, and no aggression toward other birds. Basil will make a wonderful companion for the family who can spend appropriate amounts of time with him and who likes to play!
