Jack's Story...
COURTESY POST

Jack is a 2 year old Jack Russell-Chihuahua mix. Jack was found walking up the middle of Little Tujunga Road in the San Angeles National Forest with another stray dog (Daniels) without tags, collar or chip. He was underweight and stressed and, from his behavior, he might have been living in the wild for most of his life. It took him a while, but he is now 99% housebroken and loves people. He wants nothing more than to curl up next to a person and feel the warmth and love and security of being part of a family. He usually sleeps in a small crate at night but sometimes I let him curl up with the other dogs on the bed and he’s in heaven. He likes his crate and when he’s chilling, he’ll sometimes hang out in it, with the door open. He doesn’t mind when I put him in there for a time out. He doesn’t bark excessively though, if the other dogs do start a barking jag, he’ll join in. He gets along fairly well with other dogs (except for his old travelling buddy, Daniels… there appears to be some deep rooted competition going on there) but sometimes he gets a little snarly with other dogs, but he’s learning that this is not appropriate behavior. He got mauled by another dog, but it doesn’t seem to have affected him much; he got along fine with his attacker afterwards. He’s good on off-leash hikes, staying fairly close and doubling back to check in. He starting to enjoy leash walks, but at first the whole leash-thing freaked him out. He does not get separation anxiety and will keep himself entertained when alone. He likes toys that he can shred or chew on, so keep your shoes out of his reach. I think he’d be good as an only dog so that he doesn’t have to compete for a human’s attention. He loves being picked up and carried and will snuggle as close to your face as you will let him. He is ready for his forever home.

He weighs about 18 pounds and is fixed, chipped and has had his shots for DA2PP/FVRCP, Rabbies, and Bordetella.

Why Adoption is a Great Option

Jack, a Valley Village Jack Russell Terrier/Chihuahua dog was adopted! Here's how you can benefit by looking at adoption as an option to buying a Jack Russell Terrier/Chihuahua for sale in Valley Village, or seeking a Jack Russell Terrier/Chihuahua dog from a breeder in Valley Village.

  1. Rescues and shelter volunteers in Valley Village already know the personality and tendencies of their pets. This means they can match you with the right pet. That will makes it much easier transition to owning a pet for yourself and your new pet.
  2. On average adoption fees are much less than you'd pay a Valley Village breeder, or pet store. Plus most often rescue pets have already been to the veterinarian for a check-up, had a round of vaccinations, and are spayed or neutered. That is a lot of savings!
  3. You will become a hero, and give a needy dog or cat a loving home. In fact, there are even Jack Russell Terrier/Chihuahua breeders who help with Jack Russell Terrier/Chihuahua rescue. One puppy or kitten adopted in Valley Village paves the way for another one to be saved.
