My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

Cora is a sweetheart. She has had a rough go of it in life, until now. She was picked up as a stray with her mother and brought in to the Austin Animal Shelter. The poor little thing was covered in ticks and drastically underweight. Her mother was reclaimed (unfortunately), but they left sweet little Cora. That's the bad news... on to the good (thanks to Bev):

Our vet estimates that Cora is approximately five months old. She is free of parasites and taking a course of antibiotics as a precautionary measure because of her exposure to ticks. Yesterday (10/19/13), she was exactly 16.4 lbs. She has pretty small paws and won't be very big when she's full grown (maybe 30-40 lbs?). We will have her spayed as soon as the vet clears her for the surgery.

Cora has a healthy appetite. We are starting her off on Wellness canned puppy food and will incorporate the kibble once she fills out a bit. She already sits for treats without being told, which makes us think she'll be quick to learn new things as we teach her some basic commands. We will be enrolling her in a puppy foundations training class as soon as she is a bit healthier.

We are working on getting her fully potty trained. She doesn't mind her crate at all, and has only pottied in it once. She doesn't fuss much when she's crated; she just goes to sleep or sits and watches what's going on around her.

Cora gets along well with our two young dogs, Gus and Woodrow. When she's overwhelmed by them, she just sits down and tries to lick their faces, so she seems like she will be great with other dogs in her forever family. The animal shelter observed the same behavior and documented her level of fear to be low, her friendliness high and no signs of aggression. We'll continue to evaluate her as she gets healthy and more comfortable in our pack. She's very affectionate with us and sticks close by as we're moving about the house.

She's such a sweet girl and deserves a forever family that will make sure she's well taken care of and loved. If you are interested in adopting Cora, please go to our website to complete our adoption application and someone will get in touch with you.
