My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

Shilo is a very handsome classic black and white 7 year old rough coat BC who came to WBCR from a bad situation. Despite the rough treatment Shilo suffered in his past, this forgiving boy’s love of humans has not diminished a bit! Shilo is not only sweet but a real “people” dog and is going to make a devoted and lovely canine companion.

Shilo has yet to meet a stranger and he seems pretty sure that all people he sees should pet him. When on walks, he will try to veer out of his way if he notices someone who may be up for meeting him. He has been glad to greet everyone that he has met since arriving at WBCR. He adores attention, be it being brushed or petted, and will most certainly end up wanting his favorite - tummy rubs. He likes to cuddle up on the couch with his foster mom and try to sneak over to be a lap dog. He will also lie quietly at her feet, and enjoys being a part of everyday activities. Shilo’s other love is the ball! He likes to amuse himself by rolling the ball and then getting up to pounce on it and get it. He will happily play with it on his own but loves it when his people join in on the game, too. Despite being a lower energy fellow, when it’s game time his BC intensity and focus really show through. What he lacks in speed and athleticism he makes up for in enthusiasm! Shilo also enjoys going for walks and getting out in the world, and he likes chewing on bones but not obsessively.

Shilo can be touchy around other dogs and was sometimes nippy with the other two dogs in his foster home when he first arrived, although he is sure doing much better on that front! We suspect part of the reason is he seemed sore when he first arrived – perhaps from being mistreated – and he was defensive. Another part of the reason is Shilo gets excited easily, and like a lot of BCs, he nips when excited! Since arriving into foster care Shilo’s impulse control has gotten much better and he is now cohabitating nicely with the 2 other dogs in his foster home. However, he is not particularly interested in other canines and could certainly be happy as an only dog. Shilo does not do well at all with livestock and cats are a no no too. Overall, Shilo is just a moderate energy fellow. He does need some exercise daily to keep his BC brain happy but not a ton, and he is mostly content to be with his people.

This handsome boy has also got quite a few skills to boast about. He loves his crate, is housetrained, and is familiar with the basics. He is excellent off leash and loves to run! Like most BCs, Shilo is bright, interested in working with people, and a sensitive fellow. He will do best with positive methods for training. He gently takes treats whether it is biscuits or slivers of cooked chicken. While Shilo has lots of skills and is generally a confident fellow, like many BCs he is occasionally startled by noises and he will definitely benefit from adopters up for working with him especially when it comes to impulse control.

All in all, Shilo is a lovely fellow who was dealt a bad hand in the past. His forgiving nature and his love of people has helped him put it behind him and he is eager to find a home to call his own! If you are looking for a mellower fellow to share fun and quiet times with, Shilo may be the one for you.

Shilo is neutered, up to date on shots, and living in a loving foster home near Wheatland, WY.
