Hi, I'm Marley. No, I'm not like the rambunctious, house-destroying Marley in the movie "Marley and Me." We have the same name, but I'm far from a nuisance around the house. I'm very easy to love. While the other Marley took some time to win his people over, I'll capture your heart instantly because I'm such a sweet, loving boy!

I came to ESRA because my previous owners could no longer care for me due to their long work hours. I spent lots of hours in a kennel, and because of that I have some bare skin on my elbows and chest from lying in the same position for so much of the day. These places don't hurt, but sometimes I scratch them. When my foster mom reminds me to stop, I quickly obey. The vet said that my elbows and chest will likely always be a little bare, but that doesn't get me down because the most important part of me is my happy Springer soul.

Since I've been in ESRA's care, it's been hard for me to believe that life could be so good! I'm tired just thinking about how much my stump of a tail has wagged recently. I'm getting back into shape, and I'm trying to lose five pounds by eating healthy amounts of food and taking walks with my foster mom and my canine foster sister. Can I tell you a secret? Although the other dog I live with is fun, I think I'd prefer to be either the only dog in a household or to live with another low-key dog. No cats for me, either, because I chase them.

People are my greatest love. I just can't get enough of the new people in my life. I like to follow my foster mom around because I don't want to miss a second of what she's doing, even if it means lying on the floor near her feet in the kitchen or under her desk if she's working. I just plan to be there anytime the opportunity to get petted might arise. I even wait outside the shower for my foster mom to finish. One time she left the door open, and I walked right in before she did. You should have seen the look on her face!

I take a bath once a week because my skin is a little dry and flaky. I must say that I'm an exemplary bather. I stand patiently to get lathered and rinsed, and I only leave the tub when I'm dried off and ready to go. And when I get petted, I am in doggy heaven. I lie on my back and bask in the attention. If we're watching TV and my foster mom forgets about me, I work my nose up under her hand to get petted. Then all is right in my world.

I like all the female humans in my life, and I'm learning to like the males. I'm a little scared of them, so it takes me some time to warm up to them. But here's another secret: a friendly hand holding a treat or two will make me someone's buddy for life! I'm also a little timid about people touching the top of my head or grabbing my collar. I back away for a second, but my heart eventually wins out because all I really want is love from the people in my new life.

As to my manners, I like to be on the couch with my people if they'll let me. I'm patient, and I don't get worked up around mealtime. I prefer to walk nicely with my people rather than to chase birds and squirrels. I know the command Sit, but Stay eludes me a little right now. I won't chew on anything in the house that's not mine, and counter surfing is not in my repertoire. I love sleeping in a human bed, but am also happy in a large kennel with a nice, soft doggie bed.

I am a good boy with free rein in the house while my foster mom is at work, but I wish she could stay home with me every day! I'm housetrained, but because I drink a lot of water, I like to go outside for potty breaks as much as I can. I'm proud to say that I'm not a door-dasher when it's time to go outside.

So do you want me to come and join your loving family? I can't believe how lucky I've become, and I know that my life is going to get even better when I find my Forever Home. I'll want lots of belly and ear rubs, and in return, I'll give you my heart forever.

With love,
Marley
