Her name says it all – Ruby truly is a hidden gem. This gorgeous girl is a 1 year-old brindle and white pit bull type dog mix. She weighs approximately 57 lbs., has already been spayed, and is up-to-date with her shots. Ruby is currently with First Ave. Shelter in Eugene, Oregon - but the volunteers there think she has too much to offer for shelter life. Ruby needs a loving home where she can continue to shine!
Ruby is adaptable and friendly with the dogs in her numerous playgroups, both male and female. Being high-energy and young, Ruby is very forward, but displays the ability to back off if another dog demands it. She loves to play with other dogs, though may be too rough for some. While we have only matched her with canines larger than 40 pounds, she would probably hit it off with any dog that can handle high-energy play. She absolutely cannot live with cats.
Socialization continues to improve her play skills, but Ruby takes most of the credit – she’s incredibly intelligent and learns super quickly. She’s also mega-friendly! Ruby greets kids, adults, and elderly folks that visit the shelter with enthusiasm. She will jump when meeting new people, but re-directs with treats and will give a nice sit. Ruby is extraordinarily toy and food motivated which makes training a blast. She's getting used to her leash, but will benefit from more extensive training to reinforce proper leash walking manners. Ruby has never displayed aggression, only reactivity when frustrated. Again, this is very easy to re-direct, and her frustration is rarely seen outside of the shelter.
Ruby would really enjoy living with fairly active people—to help her get some regularly exercise (Hikers, campers, runners? Surely we have loads of these people in the Northwest!). Ruby is looking for someone whose dogs are their life partners whom they enjoy spending time with and who have time to do so! In return, would you accept unconditional love from Ruby?
