Duke's Info...

I am already neutered, housetrained, purebred, up to date with shots, good with kids, good with dogs, and not good with cats.

Duke's Story...
Duke is a 5 year old black male with natural ears. He came to rescue due to divorce and not through any fault of his own. He is a handsome boy who loves to follow you everywhere. If you are home he has to be with you, but he is a good boy and lays on his bed if you have to leave him home alone. Duke plays well with his foster sister and will back off when she tells him to. He is great with children of all ages but does not do well with cats. He is friendly, walks well on a leash with a harness and is one of the cleanest Danes I have had in a long while with his food and drinking habits. He would love to be able to lay on a comfy bed or couch if allowed but will respect 'no' if it is not permitted. He is house trained and will nudge you with his big wet nose in the morning if he needs to go out and you are still sleeping. He was said to be a 'mans' dog but he has been good with boundaries set since he has been with me. He is a very sweet boy who will add love and character to the family that is lucky enough to adopt him.

Mid-Atlantic Great Dane Rescue League can only adopt within its incorporated area (eastern NY, eastern PA, NJ, DE, WV, MD, and VA). For more information on our adoption policies please visit our website: To adopt a Great Dane under 2 you must have traditional fencing (no electronic fences permitted). For Danes over 2, please see our website for fencing policies.

Why Adoption is a Great Option

Duke, a York Great Dane dog was adopted! Here's how you can benefit by looking at adoption as an option to buying a Great Dane for sale in York, or seeking a Great Dane dog from a breeder in York.

  1. Rescues and shelter volunteers in York already know the personality and tendencies of their pets. This means they can match you with the right pet. That will makes it much easier transition to owning a pet for yourself and your new pet.
  2. On average adoption fees are much less than you'd pay a York breeder, or pet store. Plus most often rescue pets have already been to the veterinarian for a check-up, had a round of vaccinations, and are spayed or neutered. That is a lot of savings!
  3. You will become a hero, and give a needy dog or cat a loving home. In fact, there are even Great Dane breeders who help with Great Dane rescue. One puppy or kitten adopted in York paves the way for another one to be saved.
