My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

Freckles is very loving and friendly 14.2 hand mare. Check her out at https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=cJVPxv6QEj4
She is estimated to be in her twenties. She came to us severely neglected and has finally gotten to a healthy weight. We were told she was originally trained as a cutting horse. She would be a great choice as a companion horse for someone who just wants to pet and groom a pasture pet. She has some arthritis, so isn't able to be ridden regularly. She likes to be brushed and groomed too!
Since starting back on her joint supplement, every six week farrier care, and a good diet, Freckles is back to being sound in the pasture consistently, so we started her on light riding yesterday. Freckles will be ridden a few times a week to see if she stays comfortable while being ridden. Freckles is beginner safe and a great kid's horse who enjoys being ridden, so we are hoping to confirm that she's sound enough for light riding and find her a great home! There is no adoption fee for Freckles, but her new home will need to agree to our feeding plan, farrier schedule, and to keep her on her joint supplement. Her new home will also need to agree to periodic visits from us and if she begins to lose weight, she will be coming back to the rescue. This is not our policy with most horses, but Freckles is older and needs extra care, so she is a special case. Please email drkathyjordan@yahoo.com if you would like to know more about this sweet girl and provide her a forever home! She's been in our rescue over two years and needs a home of her own!

Our horses have received their basic vaccinations (Rabies vaccine, EWT combo vaccine) at the time of adoption. They have been dewormed and have a negative Coggins test as well. All horses have received a hoof assessment and trimming. We do our best to determine what amount of training they have had and to represent them as accurately as possible. However, we usually do not know the history of our horses, so we determine training by how the horses act after we get them. Please call ahead or email to set up a time to meet our horses if you are interested in adopting. They are at foster homes so we may need up to a couple days notice in order to schedule a time for you to see them.

We desire for our horses to find a good home where the horse will be a good fit with the person adoption him/her. With that goal in mind, we do our best to accurately represent everything, good and bad, with our horses. Since they have received a full vet exam, many times there are health problems recorded here. The vast majority of horses have at least some health issue, though most sellers are unaware if the horse has not recently received a full examination. Therefore keep this in mind if we report a horse has some soreness or lameness issues - our horses are likely not less sound than other horses on this site - we simply examine them and report all concerns.

As part of helping new owners find a horse that is a good fit, we offer several valuable services included as part of the adoption fee on our horses. We offer a 1-2 hour training session with Alexandria Dodgen who trains using natural horsemanship techniques. She will help you learn to handle your new horse in a way that gets your horses listening to and respecting you. She is also available to fully train your new horse, though that is not included with the adoption fee. Our goal is to help you and your new horse have the best start possible and to help you find a horse that will be a great long term fit for you and your family. Offers for training are dependent on you bringing the horse to the trainer's facility (or potentially paying an additional house call fee at your expense). In addition to the training session, CARE also provides a week of free boarding until you can pick up your new horse. Adoption fees are negotiable to the right home. For more information, please email us at drkathyjordan@yahoo.com You can see our adoption applications and and more info about our rescue on our website, www.crossroadsanimalrescue.org. To streamline the adoption process, you can fill out the application and attach it to your email inquiring about a horse. You can also call us at 864-972-9994.
