My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

Benji has been a beloved pet for the past six years of his life. His very young mom and dad have fallen on hard times with the loss of her job and a new baby on the way. She is truly doing the right thing to find him a better place and setting for the rest of his life. There is a young 22 month old child here in the home and now a second on the way and the young mom has lost her job. Their money is really tight and so the loving mom has made a decision to find her beloved Benji a new home.
This is what she says about Benji…
He was a gift from my parents when I was only 19 years old. He was only about 7 weeks old I believe. I used to work a lot and never really had the time to socialize him. I was inexperienced, didn't know much about dogs, let alone cocker spaniels. He is not a Dog Park dog, right now…. he is wonderful on a leash and has many great attributes, housetrained, crate trained, no chewing of inappropriate things or objects at all. He can be possessive when chewing on rawhides so those sorts of treats should be limited. Small and fast moving children make him nervous as we find with many cocker spaniels. He knows commands like "sit, stay, no, up and down" he won’t get on the bed or couch without anyone's permission and he will get down as soon as you tell him to. We've taken him several times to the dog park to socialize him but realized he is afraid of loud noises and overly excited dogs. Loud noises like screaming children, people laughing too loud or other barking dogs. When we take him we make sure to bring a ball and let him fetch it. He'll ignore anyone around if he has a nice ball to fetch! We've even taken him to a park in Smyrna (his favorite) and he runs runs and runs like a wild horse ignoring anything and everything even if he knows his leash is off. He LOVES to run and fetch. He is more of a scared puppy rather than an aggressive one. He's never bitten anyone or any other dog. When he meets someone for the first time, he will bark and you can tell in his eyes he is more afraid rather than being aggressive. But anyone can quickly gain his trust and he becomes your protector. Throw a cookie in the air and you will find yourself a best friend for life. He is good with people but afraid of dogs bigger than him. I think that if he had the chance to meet another cocker spaniel he would be the happiest dog in the universe. He loves carrots and apples! We bought him a chewing kong toy that looks like an octopus because he loves to pull on the edges. It squeaks and everyday he waits for my husband to get home from work with his toy in his mouth. Ready to play. He enjoys looking out the window. He loves to get his belly rubbed. He LOVES to take long walks and loves, loves to run. He is very, very good at the vet and pet grooming salon.
