My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

Honey is a very affectionate and curious young girl. She gets along great with other dogs and people of all ages. She is a little shy when first meeting but she warms up quickly and loves the attention. She is a young dog approximately a year old and is getting used to all the sights and sounds of city living. She is small girl weighing just under 18 lbs.

Here is what her foster family had to say:

Honey is a lovely dog and could go to any family. She is very easy going and needs basic work but once in a forever home Ii see no issues with her learning. She loves affection and bathes... especially the drying off part, she is a huge cuddler (with children as well once she gets to meet someone who respects her space when necessary). She could lay in the sun all day and just be in the fresh air. She doesn't get on any furniture unless invited but once up she is your lap dog and best friend. She loves to curl up under the blankets with you and watch a movie or read a book. Just to be close to you is all she wants, as well to please you. She is a great dog and a great companion.

She bonds quickly with her people and looks to them for safety in the new world she is discovering. When she meets new people or new dogs she is a bit standoffish at first until she sees there is no danger and then she is all wanting love from the people and wanting to play with the dogs. She is a young girl that is learning how to behave in a home and to know that she is safe and will be loved and cared for the rest of her life. She is currently living in an apartment but she will bark when she hears other dogs barking outside or when we first leave the apartment.

She is learning her basic commands and now knows what "sit" means now but when you attempt to get her into the sit she cowers and lies down. It seems to me to be a trust issue, because when we come in from our walk and its treat time she sits right away and is now gentle in taking a treat. She is completely house trained and has no issues signifying she needs to go out. (to signal she will stand by the door and wait patiently, but she will stare you down!) She is crated when I am not home and often retreats to it for a nap during the day. I trust that she will not need a crate for much longer if only for a safe place to retreat to when feeling a bit out of place. She is nearly leash trained. She still pulls when she is trying to investigative and she cowers when you try to command her because she seems unsure whether it is punishment or a command. As her confidence increases she is more and more interested in learning. She is still very young and at times is mouthy when playing but we are working on that.

She is a great companion and any family would be lucky to have Honey in their home. She will need someone that is willing to continue her training and socialization and help her become a confident girl. She is very loving and wants to please and just needs someone to give her the time to understand that yes, she is home.

If you would like to give this little girl a forever home, please submit an application for consideration.
