Hazel's Story...
Hazel (tabby) and Gretel (tortie) were born September 17, 2013 and were found as 3 week old orphans.....so tiny and so hungry! They are both thriving and just had their first doctor visit and vaccines. They have not been tested for FIV or Feline Leukemia so they cannot be reserved or adopted yet but they are scheduled for the test on November 18. Once we know the results, these two cute little kittens could be reserved, with an approved application and a $20 non refundable deposit. They cannot be adopted until they reach 12 weeks AND 3 pounds as that is when we will spay them. They love to play and like visitors!

Why Adoption is a Great Option

Hazel, a Des Moines American Shorthair kitten was adopted! Here's how you can benefit by looking at adoption as an option to buying a American Shorthair for sale in Des Moines, or seeking a American Shorthair kitten from a breeder in Des Moines.

  1. Rescues and shelter volunteers in Des Moines already know the personality and tendencies of their pets. This means they can match you with the right pet. That will makes it much easier transition to owning a pet for yourself and your new pet.
  2. On average adoption fees are much less than you'd pay a Des Moines breeder, or pet store. Plus most often rescue pets have already been to the veterinarian for a check-up, had a round of vaccinations, and are spayed or neutered. That is a lot of savings!
  3. You will become a hero, and give a needy dog or cat a loving home. In fact, there are even American Shorthair breeders who help with American Shorthair rescue. One puppy or kitten adopted in Des Moines paves the way for another one to be saved.
