My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

Mika is a very special dog, and we are looking for a special person or family to give her a permanent home of her own. Mika is so sweet, and has so much potential, but has spent three years in a shelter and one year in foster homes. Please read through her entire profile to see if maybe your home is the one she’s been looking for.

Mika is a 6 year old, 40 pound, well mannered and friendly
girl. She is a mix— we think maybe hound and pit bull, definitely
100% pure sweetness. She likes to go for walks, ride in the car, and
of course hang out on the couch. She is loving the warm weather, and
likes to roll in the grass and soak up the sun. She loves people, and
is really wonderful with kids.

Mika has great house manners, is fully housebroken, and is crate trained. She’s already spayed, vaccinated, and chipped— basically
ready to move right into her new home. However, Mika also has some
special needs:

* Mika is not a fan of other dogs or of cats, so she is looking for a
home where she can be the only pet and soak up all the love and belly
scritches for herself.

* Mika has a hard time transitioning to a new home. Once she settles
in she’s fantastic, but we are looking for a family who understands
and commits to the idea of providing the leadership and structure that
she needs to feel secure. Ideally, her new owners would be experienced
with pit bulls or other strong (and strong-minded) breeds.
Fortunately, Mika has made so many friends that she comes with a
scholarship for free private lessons for her and her lucky new owners!

* Mika’s perfect home will be in a quiet neighborhood with some land
and space, away from the hustle and bustle of the city.

We know that there is a person or family out there who will be a great match for this sweet dog.
If you’re looking for a great family pet or a special dog friend just
for you, Mika may be your girl!

If you are interested in finding out more about Mika, please fill out an application. Mika is being fostered in Winchendon.

Visual breed identification in dogs is unreliable, so for most of the dogs we are only guessing at predominant breed or breed mix. We get to know each dog as an individual and will do our best to describe each of our dogs based on personality, not by breed label.
