Here's what the humans have to say about me:
Duke : 5 yr.-old yellow neutered male 90 lbs. (needs to lose 10 lbs.)
Duke is a fun-loving boy who has had some major changes in his life. He is a victim of divorce and his family loved him enough to realize that he needed more than life in an apartment when everyone is so busy. Duke is such a sweet boy who gets along with everyone. He grew up with small children, a cat and a Chihuahua. He does get a little excited when he gets the attention that he desperately wants and may get a little mouthy, but he just wants to be loved. This can be corrected with more exercise and clear boundaries.
Duke is adapting really well to being an inside dog. He loves chewing on bones (has not chewed on anything inappropriately) and after a few nights of adjustment he is sleeping through the night. Duke walks fairly well on a leash, although a gentle leader or Martingale collar would be helpful because he will pull if he sees something interesting. We feel this will improve quickly with consistent training. He loves riding in the car and is definitely a water pup. His favorite thing is to topple the water bowl with his foot, a habit that sounds adorable and is kind of fun to watch except if you are the one cleaning up the water. His foster is trying to break him of that.
Duke is in good health, although he needs to lose some weight. He has had surgery to repair his ACL when he was younger, but the Vet says everything looks good.
Lab Rescue would like to see Duke go to a home where someone will be home with him and he will be part of the family. It is important that he go to a family that is Lab-savvy and able to provide the strong leadership that he needs. It is also important for his new family to understand the need for ongoing training and exercise. He loves his walks and loves to play. Swimming would be great too. We feel because of his size and tendency to get overexcited and mouthy, kids in his home should be 6 or older. Duke is up to date on his shots and microchipped.
If you think you can provide a wonderful forever home for this fabulous guy, please call rep Ronnie at 408-738-0841.
(Please keep in mind we are all volunteers, most of us work full time and we all have personal lives. I do call everyone back within 2-3 days so please be patient and I will be back in touch with you. When the dogs are in foster homes then it may take longer as we need to touch base with the fosters for updates on the dogs. We work very hard to make the right matches for the dogs and for the new owners. We get 3-5 dogs per week and we do not have a facility that we keep the dogs housed in. They are scattered all over the Bay Area.)
