Travis is a sweet, warm, very loving 32 lb. lemon Beagle/Labrador Retriever mix rescued from the South L.A. Shelter as an owner surrender (the people were moving). Though his paperwork states he is age four, we do not believe that this is the case. As shelters commonly get the ages of dogs wrong, based on his personality, as well as his really white teeth, I’d say Travis is closer to age 2 ½ to 3. Travis gets along well with the other dogs in the rescue, and he currently lives in one of the rescue’s foster home where there are two other dogs and three cats. Though Travis is tentative at first around new people, he is a friendly dog who will bond quickly with his new family and will do well quickly within the comforts of his own home. However, Travis could use more exposure and practice in his “out in the world” socialization. His best fit would be with people who can be a confident leader to Travis so that Travis can derive his security from his humans.

Travis is a very calm dog with an occasional energetic and playful side; he has demonstrated a surprising burst of speed when playing “chase” in the yard, but his preference would be to accompany his people around the house, sitting quietly at their feet or snuggling up with them on the couch for an evening in. Travis knows basic commands, and would likely take well to additional training as he is smart, eager to please, and devoted to the people with whom he is bonded. Travis is essentially a Velcro dog and his preference is to be in the same room as the humans. However, I often find him in his crate, hanging in there (when the crate door is left open), or, sunning himself on the porch.

Travis is house-trained (though potty reinforcement is needed in any new environment). He sleeps in his crate at night without any issues, and is crated intermittently throughout the day as needed, however, we have been able to leave him loose in the house for up to five hours, with a small pack of dogs, and I come home to no potty accidents and nothing out of place. Travis is not destructive in the house in the least. He walks best on the leash, in public, if one uses a prong collar to prevent him from pulling. Travis is very affectionate, always seeking to keep his people in view and giving them lots of kisses. Travis will make a wonderful, loyal companion in his new home. He would do well in a household with another dog. He could do equally well as the only dog in the home as long as he is not left alone for long stretches at a time.

Travis is neutered, de-wormed, vaccinated including rabies, and micro-chipped. If you are interested in Travis, please contact Angel’s Heart Dog Rescue at: adopt@angelsheartdogrescue.com.
