My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

Adopted 12/23/13!!!

Update 12/5/13 - Watch their new video to see how adorable Ash & Rosie are together! Ash even gives Rosie a quick kiss! This sweet couple is completing their heartworm treatment and will be traveling north to a Foster home. They needed lots of good care to help them gain weight, endure heartworm treatment, and for their coats to improve. Ash will have a beautiful, fluffy Golden-like tail when it grows in fully. Rosie was in the worst condition of the two and she is in the process of shedding her old coat and growing in a beautiful new one. Both of them are so appreciative of any attention. They will be so happy to have a home of their own, and to feel safe and loved. These two get along with people, dogs, and cats, and they will bring joy and smiles to anyone lucky enough to adopt them! Please consider them, they are loving, gentle dogs and as sweet as can be.

Update 11/25/13 - Great news for sweet and lovable Rosie and Ash! Rosie has gained 10 lbs. since being with Sunshine. Ash has also gained much-needed weight. Their coats are looking better and their eyes sparkle. They are so happy to receive regular meals, have playtime together, and receive petting and attention from people every day -- something they did not receive for a year. They are completing their heartworm treatment and will be ready for their home in mid-December. They are so ready to be part of a loving family. Please ask for them and make their lives complete!

Original Bio - Ash and Rosie are a devoted senior couple who will grab your heart the moment you meet them. They have helped each other through quite an ordeal. Their former owners moved out when their home went into foreclosure. Unable to find a place to bring Rosie and Ash, they left the pair living in the back yard for a year! The owners stopped by to feed them periodically, but the year of semi-abandonment took its toll. Rosie and Ash came to Sunshine very thin, covered in fleas, in need of vaccinations, and heartworm positive. The good news is that they are now being pampered, provided with vet care, and given lots of nutritious food and attention. They will be ready for their new forever home as soon as their heartworm treatment is completed.

Rosie is about 8 years old, and is the shier of the two. She is a pretty, petite girl who is as lovable and sweet as it gets. She is a very active senior who loves to play. Her sugar-coated face is starting and her front teeth are worn down, probably from chewing out of boredom, but with TLC she is going to re-blossom into a beauty.

Ash is a Golden/Lab mix, 7 years old. He is as big and masculine as Rosie is petite, and he is her rock. Ash is going to be magnificent once he fills out and his coat improves, with his block head and long black fur. Ash is just as affectionate as his Rosie and is also a playful, active dog.

Rosie and Ash crave attention from people, which shows in their pictures. They adore each other and must stay together. They are going to bring lots of happiness to a lucky home! If you would consider a pair, please ask about Rosie and Ash. They are wonderful, gorgeous dogs and they deserve a home where they will feel safe and secure with lots of attention and love!

About Our Rescue

Before being approved to adopt, all potential adopters need to complete our online application and participate in our pre-adoption review process. The process includes the completion of an online application, a reference from the applicants' vet, a phone interview, and a visit to the applicants' home. The application process helps us determine what type of Golden would be best suited for the applicants' life style. In some cases, the specific dog you are interested in may have found a home before this process is complete or further assessment may find that this dog is not the right match for your family. We are regularly getting new Goldens in need of a home, so we encourage you to apply and get approved so that when the right dog comes along you will be ready.

A contract is signed the day of adoption. Under the terms of the contract, all adopters are required to bring the rescue to a vet within 7 business days. The dogs receive basic veterinary care prior to adoption. If your vet identifies an illness that an adopter is not willing to treat, then the dog is returned and a full refund is provided.

The information provided on each dog is based on observations of our vets, volunteers, fosters and when available, trainers. While we do our best to report any and all issues, SGRR does not make any guarantees as to the health or temperament of any dog. Dogs evolve differently in different environments and we cannot predict with any certainty how the dog you adopt will act in your home.

Many of our dogs are fostered in private homes and we do not have a facility to visit. We are committed to our dogs before, during, and after adoption! The rescue retains title to the dog and can never be released or sold. Should the adopters no longer be able to keep the dog, SGRR must be notified so that we can take the dog back into rescue and place it into another home. We reserve the right to remove a dog at any time should we find the adopter is no longer caring for their Golden in a way we see fit. Adopters then have to agree to follow up visits as needed.

Be a ray of light for this Sunshine dog - make a tax deductible donation toward medical and other expenses. Every cent of your generosity goes directly toward the care of a Sunshine dog.
