My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

BAKER : 7 yr old yellow neutered male Lab 79 lbs
DAISY: 6 yr old yellow spayed female Lab 69 lbs

Baker and Daisy come from a very loving family who are very sad that they need to find them a new family. Due to health issues, they cannot care for them as they should be. So with very sad hearts they called Lab Rescue to help find the perfect home for them together.

Baker: This very handsome, stoic guy has been with his family since he was 6 weeks old. He was purchased from a breeder in Bakersfield. When I first met Baker he was unsure and hid behind his dad’s legs and gave a couple of woofs. When he saw that Daisy was getting all the attention he was perfectly happy to join in the fun. He does not jump on you when you meet him. Baker’s owner describes him as a very handsome, intelligent guy and he knows it.

Baker knows his commands; sit, stay and walk. He will need some reinforcement; the basics are there; however, he needs consistency. Baker is a dream to walk on leash, following right along side of you. His owner uses the word “walk” instead of heel. Baker will come when called; sometimes he takes his “sweet time”, stopping along the way to see if something interests him more. He loves to play fetch for as long as you would like to play, but he is not obsessed about it. Baker does get excited when the treats come out, you just need to remind him to be gentle and he will.

Baker is very loving towards children; he should go to a home with children over 7 since he is a big guy and might accidently knock them down. He is housetrained, sleeps inside at night on his bed. During the day he is outside with Daisy, rolling around and chasing each other. He can be in the house and be calm and will lie on his bed quietly. Baker and Daisy will both run to the door if someone is to knock; consistency and patience will correct this behavior. He is fine riding in the car; he will not jump into a truck, so he needs a little boost. He loves to swim; take him to a body of water and he is all in for the fun. Baker will chase cats, so he will do best in a cat-free home.

Baker has food allergies, so he is on a grain-free diet and takes Benadryl each day, which can be purchased at Costco for a minimal price.

Daisy: A-h-h-h, sweet Daisy! She has been with her family since she was a puppy, purchased from a breeder in Visalia. When I met her she jumped up to greet me, barely touching me, though. She settled right down and enjoyed all the attention and petting she could get. Her family describes her as a very happy, loving dog that loves everyone she meets.

Daisy also needs consistent reinforcement with her commands; the basics are there also. When you call her she will come running to see what all the excitement is about. Daisy walks nicely with a gentle leader. It can take her a minute or two to settle in next to you. Daisy and Baker can be walked together with no problem at all. Daisy loves treats and takes them very gently. She is not that fond of swimming, so you will see her sitting on the sidelines watching Baker swim. Daisy loves to play fetch also, bringing her toy back to you every time, but she will stop when you tell her, too. Daisy is not fond of cats either.

Daisy is very loving with children, enjoying all the love and cuddles she can receive. She is housetrained, sleeps inside at night on her bed. Daisy would love to be inside with you all the time, while Baker is happy to be outside investigating nature. One thing to know about Daisy she is not fond of fireworks, so turn the music up a little bit higher for her.

This is what their family has to say about them: “Baker and Daisy have been our loving family since they were puppies. When they first met it was love at first sight. Baker fell madly in love with Daisy; they have been inseparable ever since, just like husband and wife.

Baker is a very intelligent, handsome dog with a loving heart. He loves attention, to be petted and cuddled. He enjoys going for walks and playing chase with Daisy. To get your attention you might find Baker trying to get between your legs, hoping for a little scratch time. He loves to wrestle with his daddy and will jump into a pool of water, especially in hot weather. When Baker has been around dogs, he has enjoyed their company.

Daisy is a very energetic little dog, who loves to play. She will fetch all day if given the chance. Daisy loves to be loved and cuddled. She is the one that will sneak off of her bed to say “hi” and get some attention. In fact, watch out when you are working because Daisy will stick her nose into your work, looking for some special love. She is very smart and is anxious to please.

Unfortunately, their daddy suffered a heart attack along with a stroke and is unable to provide the care and energy needed to keep both Daisy and Baker exercised on a regular basis. So, Daisy, along with her “husband” Baker, are looking for their “forever” home. We hope that someone will adopt Baker and Daisy and give them the love and attention they so deserve.”

Since Baker and Daisy are so bonded they will be adopted together. We will be looking for a family that can provide them with the exercise they need; “a tired dog is a good dog.” You also need to be committed to continue their training and be good leaders for them. And in return, they will be wonderful companions for you! Baker and Daisy are both micro chipped and take heart worm medication and are up to date on their shots.

If you have the time and commitment for this wonderful couple, please call Rescue Rep Judy T @ 707-480-8469.

(Please keep in mind we are all volunteers, most of us work full time and we all have personal lives. I do call everyone back within 2-3 days so please be patient and I will be back in touch with you. When the dogs are in foster homes then it may take longer as we need to touch base with the fosters for updates on the dogs. We work very hard to make the right matches for the dogs and for the new owners. We get 3-5 dogs per week and we do not have a facility that we keep the dogs housed in. They are scattered all over the Bay Area.)
