Jelly - classic hound!'s Info...
I am purebred.
Jelly is our token hound among the beagles. We normally have foster homes only for the beagles, but Jelly is a lucky gal. She was found as a stray by a kind woman who wanted to see her get a good home, so she agreed to take care of Jelly until her forever family finds her. She tested heartworm negative and has now been fully vaccinated and spayed. She comes with a microchip and a leash, collar, and rescue ID tag so she will not ever be separated from her family again.
Her foster mom reports that Jelly is the epitome of a hound, always scenting and searching for furry things to chase. She loves being outdoors and spends a lot of time hanging out with her foster mom who lives on acreage and has lots of outside chores to do. Her persistence in hunting behavior has not yet paid off in any captures but she has come close a few times, and was thrilled when a family of raccoons took up temporary residence in a tree near to the house. Needless to say, they did move on rather quickly! Even the former skunk neighbor decided to vacate after Jelly's arrival.
Jelly is a gentle dog, typical of the coonhound breed, and loves all her doggie and human friends at the foster home. She hangs out with a Jack Russell terrier and another hound as her best friends. She is not food aggressive and will take treats gently from the foster parents' hands. She does get rather excited and happy when she sees her friends and will do some jumping around, so because she weighs about 50+ lbs, her exuberance would be too much for small children. She likes riding in the truck and enjoys joining the other dogs to chase along with the ATV when the family rides.
Like most hounds, Jelly will escape from the fence or the front door if given an opportunity, so she must go to a home that understands the hound mentality of following the nose and not the human's commands! Jelly is crated at night, where she settles down and gets some sleep after an exciting day! She would be perfect for an active family that loves outdoor activities.
