My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

Tonka is a stunning boy with personality to match! Tonka was rescued from a high kill shelter in South Carolina that is forced to euthanize animals for space due to massive pet overpopulation. Tonka is not able to tell us his story of how he ended up there, but whatever the reason, he is proving himself to be a wonderful family dog!

Tonka is currently in a loving foster home receiving all the care in the world. He is living with a cat and two dogs, as well as two young children along with his foster mom and dad. He seems disinterested in the cat, and adores his canine foster brothers. He also loves the family's children! He gets wiggly and happy when they come home!

Tonka is guessed to be about 12 months old by the vet, is fully housebroken (though accidents should be expected when there is stress/change in an animal's life), he walks well on a leash, he appears to be incredibly smart and a quick learner, and is eager to please. Tonka is neutered, microchipped, heartworm negative, vaccinated, and is on flea/tick and heartworm prevention. He is currently about 45 lbs. and will not get much bigger. We believe he is a shepherd mix, possibly with lab, but no guarantees!

Tonka is really a chill guy who doesn't overly react to things. When he gets excited he does not jump on his people, although he seems like he wants to but knows better. His body just gets all wiggly and tail wagging a mile a minute! Tonka will be fine in a home with children, cats, and dogs, and really wants to be a part of the family and included where the family is at all times. He is going to make some family VERY lucky to have him as a companion!
