My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

My husband and I have been fostering for Ugly Mutts for almost a year, and Nikki (AKA Lucy Lou) is about the sweetest dog to come through our door thus far. She is a loyal, sturdy little hound dog with big, brown eyes that pull you in from the moment you meet her. She has a pretty tricolored coat although she is mostly white on her underside with a freckly little legs. She is a very pretty girl! Nikki is an adult dog approximately 3 - 4 years old and weighs 25 lbs.

Here is what else her foster family had to say:

Nikki is very quiet and calm in the house for the most part. She enjoys laying around with whoever will accommodate a little snuggle time, and that includes the other cats and dogs in our home. She is very interested in our cats, as are they with her since she has such a lovely temperament and is quite friendly with them. She gets along well with our two dogs and follows them around the house like she is part of the pack. She is very mellow when indoors.

This girl is a very different dog when she is outside. When she sees her leash, she can hardly contain herself. She CAN’T WAIT to get out and see what Mother Nature has in store for her!! She can be a bit of a challenge to walk as she is usually on a mission with her nose glued to the ground. She will chase the leaves falling from the trees and bark at passers by (squirrels included) so that the universe knows that she is out and about. We have been working to improve her leash manners and she has gotten better in this regard. Her new family will need to continue working with her on this.

Nikki loves her food. She likes to munch on her kibble and especially likes the soft food that she gets with her dinner. She enjoys chewy treats like rawhide and she loves her Milk-Bones. I have not found that she is particularly fussy and she has yet to turn her nose up to anything we have offered her. She likes to pull her food out of her dish so that she can inspect it before eating it and pick put out the best bits first. After everyone else has finished eating, she will run around to all the other dog dishes in the house being sure that there aren’t any left overs because that would just be wrong.

Running free at the dog park is one of her favorite things. For the first bit she will smell all the smells and scope out her territory. Once she has secured the perimeter, she moves along to meeting all the new people and animals at the park. She is very social and enthusiastic about interacting with others.

At night, Nicki will sleep in our bedroom with the rest of the pack. She has a spot on an old chair that her foster brother and sister have been kind enough to share with her (although foster brother grumbles about giving up his spot). She would really rather sleep on the bed with us, but there is only so much room up there! She will try sometimes to get into bed with her foster brother and sister, but they would rather if she didn’t. She is content to sleep in a nice soft place that is her own but would really like to have her own person to snuggle up in bed with at night.

Nicki likes her crate and doesn’t mind being left there when we go to work during the day. She snuggles up with her stuffed friends and will munch on a bone while we are gone for the day and will sometimes go there in the evening when we are watching television.

This wee girl currently has two walks per day, one first thing in the morning (I have found that getting up and actually taking her for a stroll around the block instead of leaving her to her own devices in the back yard guarantees that she will go before I run off to work) and one when we come home; however, she has had the odd accident during the day and would really do best in a home with family members that are home to let her out a bit more frequently. She can be left alone, but I feel that an 8 hour work day is too long for her.

This wee girl is already a fantastic little companion dog. All she needs is to find her perfect forever match...could it be you?

If you are interested in adding this little girl to your family, please submit an application for consideration.
