Pico's story...
Update February 2008! Pico is a tiny angel all wrapped up in the body of a raven-colored kitty with a sprinkling of pepper over her shoulders! And she has the most darling little tail that she holds very close to her body almost parallel with her back! And not only is she tiny, but her voice is tiny, too, barely a whisper! This little one didn't have the greatest start in life. She and her brother lived with their Mama who was already busy with a tiny new family! Living homeless is no fun and she learned very quickly that to trust humans was not such a good thing! But somehow, someone tricked this little family and stuffed them all into a box, taped it up, and left it on the doorstep of Cat Adoption Team on a hot summer's day! Luckily, they were discovered before the intense heat caused any harm! But this family had never known the comforts or the love of a home and all they could think of was that we might hurt them! After all, that's what everyone else had done! So we quickly set about to disprove that notion! But little Pico was not going to be easily swayed. Nooooooooooooooooooo!! She wanted very badly to believe we really loved her and only wanted the best for her, but old habits, as we all know, are hard to break! Well, that's OK, little Pico, you take all the time you need, we told her! She was welcomed into foster care where she was allowed to get comfortable with everything at her own pace. At first, she spent most of her time under the bed hiding, but little by little, she ventured out and in doing so, learned all the wonders of being an indoor kitty! She found she adored wet kitty food and she had a great time playing with all the other kitties! Getting used to the humans took a little more time, but that eventually happened too! Day after happy day went by and try as she might, she couldn't find a darn thing wrong with this new life of hers! Belly rubs and kitty massages were given often, there were lots of fun places to hang out, lots of toys to play with, and the best thing of all--that awesome feeling of being safe and loved! She has come so far since the day she joined my little foster family on Christmas Eve! And now I think she's ready to find her Forever Home! She might warm up a bit slowly, but she will warm up! And after she does that, she'll warm your heart! She would do best in a quiet home, possibly with a single person or older person who would like to dedicate their life to showing this little girl how very special she truly is! And I'm very sure she'll return the favor! Please call the shelter at 503-925-8903 to meet Pico. We offer a 20% discount on adult cat adoptions for senior adopters (62 and older).

About Our Shelter...
The Cat Adoption Team (CAT) is the Pacific Northwest’s largest non-profit, no-kill cat shelter with its own full service on-site veterinary hospital. CAT rescues, rehabilitates and places the community’s abandoned, neglected and injured cats and kittens into loving, lifetime homes. CAT not only partners with the community but with local county shelters, rescue groups and veterinary offices to take in cats that might otherwise be euthanized due to medical problems or space constraints. CAT saves close to 3,000 lives per year and relies heavily on the support of the public and generous volunteers. Thank you for visiting our site and helping us save lives!

The Cat Adoption Team requires all potential adoptive families to meet with a trained adoption counselor before adopting a cat. Families must complete an application and sign a contract, which outlines our organization's adoption guidelines. Individuals who are interested in adopting a cat or kitten are welcome to call our facility to discuss these guidelines before visiting our adoption center.

In order to give our kittens a strong, healthy start in life, and to minimize behavior problems by assuring that they are fully weaned and litter box trained, we do not adopt out any kitten until they are at least 8-10 weeks old.

Cats or kittens that test positive for leukemia or FIV can still live relatively long and healthy lives in an indoor, stress-free environment. They must, however, be adopted to homes that either have no other cats or already have asymptomatic leukemia- or FIV-positive cats. These diseases cannot be passed on to humans; they can, however, be transmitted through blood to healthy cats. Therefore, these cats must be placed in indoor-only home.
