Cocoa's story...
Meet Cocoa, she is an 80 lb, spayed female, purebred chocolate Lab. Cocoa was born on Easter Sunday, April 2, 2000.

Cocoa is a survivor. Her mom had already given birth to her six siblings. We assumed she was done, but 6 hours later Cocoa was born. She was not breathing, but I was able to do CPR on her and revive her.

Cocoa has never left her brother, Tiger's, side. She is very polite and she loves to play ball. Cocoa is not as big as her mother and brother. She only barks when it's time to eat, and she would eat all day long if you let her. Cocoa does not fight over her dish. If she gets bored, she loves to chew on big carrots!

Cocoa does not like being left alone. She becomes very sad and will howl and cry. She loves people and adores attention. Cocoa may be a great house dog if she was with people, but we don't really know since she has lived her whole live outdoors in our large, shady, fenced in yard.

Cocoa does not like rain or snow and will stay in her custom condo, denlike shelter that is very roomy and cozy. She actually cuddles with her brother, Tiger.

Cocoa does not like cats, so she is limited to other doggie company.

She loves routine and becomes uneasy if her schedule is disrupted.

Cocoa has always lived with her big brother, Tiger, and would very much like to remain with him since they have never been apart since birth.

Cocoa and Tiger have been loved and well cared for their entire lives. Unfortunately, due to a drastic job change and an interstate move, our babies now need a new home and a new family. We would prefer to adopt them together.

This dog is located in Spartanburg, SC. Adoption Application, Vet Reference, and Re-Homing fee apply. A fenced yard is an absolute requirement.

About Our Rescue Group...
The Out of Harm's Way mission is to improve the lives of homeless, abandoned, neglected, and abused dogs through our rescue, rehabilitation, and re-homing efforts. We endeavor to remove them from harm‘s way by pulling them from kill shelters, taking them in through owner surrenders, providing for their immediate medical needs, evaluating their behavioral and social needs, then finding suitable placements for them so that they may live out the remainder of their lives happy, healthy, and well loved. We seek to show all these animals the love and respect they deserve that comes through humane care, heartfelt compassion, and the touch of human kindness.

When our dogs are placed, Out of Harm's Way requires an adoption contract to be signed by the adoptive family. We hold this as a legal and binding contract between the rescue and the adoptive family insuring the future well being of their new family member.

Out of Harm's Way also requires an adoption fee with each adoption so that our rescue may cover the inevitable costs involved in pulling, vetting, maintaining, and placing these needy dogs. Each new rescue dog requires a hefty financial outlay. Adoption fees enable us to continue our rescue efforts by supporting ongoing expenses and provide reimbursement for the cost of the spay/neuter, microchipping, and any veterinary care required prior to placement, and in most instances, even travel costs.

In all cases, the expenses related to a particular dog will be covered by the set adoption fee. While the adoption fees may seem higher for some dogs, please remember that our rescue has invested tons of time, effort, and money into all these dogs. We simply must recoup this investment in order to continue rescuing needy animals. You may also consider that if a higher adoption fee is beyond your means, you may need to consider a pet which does not require as much care and expense as a dog. However, keep in mind, the normal care and upkeep of any pet requires an ongoing financial outlay.
