These Bichons were rescued from a commercial puppy mill and can only be placed in a home with a socialized dog already living there. The children in the home must be over the age of 10.
Fred and Lucy are litter mates and have never one day in their short little lives ever been separated! They sleep/eat/play/romp/stomp as one and will love you with all their little hearts can give - which is a WHOLE LOT!! They were born sometime in September of 2007. They must be adopted together for one adoption fee.
Fred and Lucy have a congenital, non operable problem with their legs. They were born with deformed stifles ( knees ) and hips and because of their upbringing ( in a commercial breeding establishment ) didn't have any exercise or physical use of their rear legs. They are just now learning that the nerves in the legs connect to the brain, and the brain has to 'tell' the leg 'what to do'. They are now getting their synapses hooked up to their legs! Like 'do it yourself physical therapy' ! It's really more a 'neurological' issue; just like if you broke your arm and never used it again... you'd loose the use of that arm, your brain would 'turn it off'; well, these babies are just now getting their brains to 'turn on' their rear legs.
Lucy is not quite as mobile yet as Fred, but she has made amazing progress in her development since she's had a big fenced in grassy yard to romp and play in. Both dogs enjoy digging in the yard and doing all sorts of other perfectly normal doggy things. Fred and Lucy also walk well on a leash. They are doing well with their house training
Fred, is now virtually 'fine'; he has a little stiffness in his left rear leg, but unless you really watch closely, you cannot tell he has any problem with that leg. He can run up/down stairs, jump, spin, BLITZ with the rest of his 'foster' friends.
Lucy is learning to navigate steps, but we think that it won't always be a problem for her once she gets the 'balance' part figured out. Lucy now can climb steps and is working on going down and we're confident that she can eventually learn how to do that.
Fred and Lucy are being fostered in CT
