Apple's Story...
Apple is one of the “Gabbs dogs”, the 144 dogs left orphaned in the desert on a ranch near Gabbs, Nevada when their owner died in May 2007. Apple was rescued during the final round up of the Gabbs dogs in January, 2008. Apple went to "Camp Reno" for a month of intensive rehab before he was released to a shelter in California. After many months of waiting, Apple was adopted, but in a moment of panic, Apple jumped the fence and spent the next week camped out on the beach at Tahoe. Apple was eventually captured and returned to the shelter. Then time started running out for Apple and a call went out to Safe Haven Kennel in Yerington, Nevada, where many of the Gabbs ex-patriots found themselves.
Apple is an extraordinary dog. He had a cameo appearance in the National Geographic Channel show “DogTown” in the episode “Project Rescue” (http://network.bestfriends.org/utah/news/28964.html). Apple was the one wriggling through the fence. He was then, and continues to be an escape artist. But once he is comfortable, he doesn’t leave. He just likes to define his own boundaries.
Apple is leash trained, and with a person he trusts, he will run off lead and come back. He knows basic commands (like sit for treats) and can do a trick—jump for treats. What Apple needs now is a home where he can get lots of one on one attention. He does well (probably best) having another dog around, especially a dominant female.
A foster home would be great, a permanent home, awesome. For more information call Kris at 775-790-1626 or email barkdogsinfo@gmail.com.
Apple is neutered, micro chipped and up to date on his shots.
