Clark Kent - MI's Story...
This Bichon was rescued from a commercial puppy mill and can only be placed in a home with
a socialized dog already living there.
The children in the home must be over the age of 10.

Clark Kent has spent his whole life in a small cage in a commercial kennel. Clark was born 07/10/00 and weighs 12 pounds. He can be adopted for the Senior Dog Rate of $75.00

Clark Kent has been adjusting well in his foster home. He is painfully shy and afraid of humans, but allows himself to be touched when he’s not approached aggressively. He knows when to jump onto the window seat to have his belly band removed or attached, or when he is told, or when it’s time to go outside or to bed. Clark Kent loves to sleep on a pillow above my head or beside me, and loves to have his tummy and chin rubbed when it’s dark in the room. Clark Kent is extremely intelligent and picks up very rapidly.

He is learning how to play – with toys, sticks, and especially, with his fluffer siblings. He even attempts to play with his human. For example, when I attach his belly band, he'll jump off of the window seat and play chase with me. He'll run toward me and bark (with his tail wagging), then back up when I reach out to him and run toward me again. He'll also sniff my hand, and will take treats when they're placed near him. He’s very cautious, but becoming much more trusting.

Mr. Kent loves to ride in the doggy pouch when I'm walking other fluffers. He is eager for me to attach his harness and leash when he sees that a walk is coming up. He’s very calm and will let children and adults pet him. He does not growl or show fear when he’s in the pouch. He will not walk on a leash, however. When I've attempted to set him down and walk him, he'll sit down and dig in his little feet. He’s afraid of the leash pulling him and having to walk toward me. He doesn't try to run, but he will not walk. We're practicing running around in the backyard with the harness and leash attached, but without the human being attached to the other end. Clark Kent does not like it, but he will run around in the harness. He will need a home with a fenced yard.

Clark loves the air conditioning! He goes outside to do his “duty”, and will stay awhile to play with the other fluffers, but is often the first back in, especially when it’s very hot outside. He’s curious about items in the house and outside, and loves to follow the other fluffers when investigating. He no longer stays a long distance away from me when I'm outdoors, and has even walked directly behind me to follow the other fluffers around while I'm working in the yard.

Most of Clark’s teeth were removed when he came into rescue because of poor veterinary care, so his little tongue tends to hang out to the left side of his crooked mouth. It doesn't stop him from eating dry kibble or canned dog food, though. He has a healthy appetite, but prefers to take his meals alone. He'll watch the other fluffers eat, and may approach the bowl, but will wait for his meals until no one is around – either human or fluffer.

Mr. Kent is a lovely little man, who will someday grow into a more trusting fluffer. He takes his time to trust, but watches and learns quickly what is expected of him, and he follows directions very well. If he’s concerned at all, he'll “trill” like a little tribble. He won't growl, but he'll crouch down and make a little scared noise. I believe that the more he learns to trust, the less cautious and fearful he will become over time, as he’s already showing trust in humans.

Overall, Clark Kent is a delightful little fellow with many good, happy years ahead him of learning to love and be loved. As long as he has a well-socialized canine companion to show him what he needs to know and humans who let him know that he’s doing ok, he should become more sweet and companionable.
