Grover's Story...

Grover is a sweet, talkative senior. He used to be a feral cat, but life at the shelter has taught him that hanging out with humans can be a good thing. Although he is still cautious around new people, Grover enjoys being petted by humans he knows. He also likes to occupy high places, so he can see everything going on in the room.

Grover seems interested in the people who visit the shy room, but will usually sit at a safe distance to observe them first before he approaches them.

If you have not yet met Grover, he will be most responsive if you go slow with him, and allow him to get to know you on his terms. A good way to start is by not standing too close, avoiding eye contact and telling him over and over what a fine and deserving cat he is.

Grover has grown relatively comfortable with his TLC volunteer,  and often greets her by rubbing against her legs and asking for attention. He allows her to pet him, and seems much improved over six months ago when he would hiss and run if anyone tried to engage him.

Grover would benefit from being placed in a foster home to receive one on one attention. If you are interested in adopting or fostering Grover, come on down to the shelter and pay him a visit in the shy room. He would love to meet you!

About Our Shelter...
As of March 1st, Animal Rescue and Adoption Society will be doing business as Rocky Mountain Feline Rescue to better reflect our mission and the population that we serve.

The ARAS Mission: ARAS is a no-kill cat shelter dedicated to preventing cruelty to animals, and providing a safe shelter and a second chance for homeless cats and kittens. Through outreach programs and community referrals, ARAS seeks to educate the public by providing current information regarding other rescue organizations and services when ARAS is unable to accommodate the animal in need.

ARAS is committed to helping animals in need of safe environments and people in need of solutions.

Established in 1982, the Animal Rescue and Adoption Society is a non-profit, no-kill cat shelter located in Denver, Colorado. Society staff and volunteers care for approximately 185 homeless and abandoned cats. ARAS receives no government funding and is dependent upon donations from the community and the proceeds from fundraising events.

The shelter is located in an industrial area, less than five miles from Downtown Denver. ARAS originally began in a garage, then relocated to its present location where it has existed for about 14 years.
