Barney is just too cute. He is probably a little over a year old, weighs around 35 pounds, and seems like he has had some pretty rough treatment in his past. When you touch anything around his face or muzzle area, he whimpers like he thinks you are going to hurt him. He also tested heartworm positive, but he has now been through his full treatment regimen and is doing great. He now has a clean bill of health from the vet. He is so loving and just a happy little guy that loves to play and have fun. Housebreaking and crate training are progressing well. True to his breed, Barney is a very smart dog and very responsive to training. Also true to his breed, his is high energy and may be a little too much for younger children.
Barney apparently didn't get a lot of attention or positive reinforcement early on in life, so he is a little behind on his social skills. He is a 'working dog' by breed and he loves to have a job - even if it is just to 'sit.' He is energetic and needs to be challenged daily. We are working on his doggy social skills. It seems that he wasn't properly socialized with other animals when he was younger, so his manners need some work. The good news is that he wants to make his people happy, so he listens well. He is a very smart little boy and with the right family, he will be just perfect. He needs a firm, experienced pet parent who will take the time to work with him on all his skills. With the right training and patience, he is going to be an absolutely wonderful companion.
Barney has been neutered and is up-to-date on his shots. Now he needs the perfect family who will love him and protect him forever. Barney needs an active family with a fenced yard where he can play fetch and get plenty of exercise every day. He also needs to live inside with his people as he needs lots of human companionship.
