Carson's Story...
Is this a face to love, or what !! Carson is a handsome little Pekingese boy, about 9 and 1/2 years old.
Carson was brought into rescue from an area shelter. In the noise and fear at the shelter he nipped at a shelter worker, so he could not be adopted from there. We have found that Carson is blind in his left eye from an untreated ulcer (most likely). If approached from his blind side in unfamiliar surroundings he may have attempted to protect himself. Since he came to rescue he has made no attempt to nip anyone. Just recently he had an injury to his right eye, but still seems to see okay. This can happen very easily to these little dogs with bulging eyes.
Carson has been neutered for many years. He has had all his vaccinations and has been checked for heartworm (which was negative). He is currently receiving drops in his blind eye to relieve irritation. He doesn't mind this treatment at all and the drops are very inexpensive. On March 18th, 2009 the folds under his eyes were surgically reduced to cut down on irritation to his eyes.
Carson is social enough with the other dogs and cats in rescue. He can be cranky if he thinks they are thinking about crawling into bed with him - he sleeps alone .... unless it's his idea. He will crawl in with Vinnie on occasion. He is just fine with the cats. He is fairly timid around people, but cautiously coming out of his shell. He seems to identify with our bashful boy, Vinnie. Carson is house trained and uses the doggie door faithfully. However, he has been known to mark when new dogs are coming in to rescue. Carson is leash trained and loves to go walking with you. He is frightened of thunderstorms, something we had not noticed until this spring. He loves to be held, loved and talked to. He is on the bed in the morning to welcome you to a brand new day.
K9HAVEN Rescue requires an adoption application, references and a home visit prior to adoption. Rescue requires a fenced yard (no underground fencing, please), and an adoption contract. We prefer a home without young children due to the blindness in his one eye. Carson's adoption fee is $75. K9HAVEN Rescue is a 501(c)3 rescue, and Carson's adoption fee is tax deductible.
If you can't adopt at this time, maybe you would like to sponsor Carson during his stay in rescue. On PetFinder, please click on the 'Sponsor' tab at the top of the page.

Our Adoption Process...
Our adoption process begins with an application. Each adoptor is required to provide 2 personal references (3 if not a current pet owner and no vet reference); a vet reference; and a home visit. Our minimum adoption fee is $50, 12 and older are usually $75, 8-11 are at least $150, and puppy to 7 are generally $200. Pure bred, perfectly healthy dogs may run higher. All generally depend on vetting expenses. Each adoptor is required to sign an adoption contract which returns the dog to rescue if they are unable to keep the dog for any reason.
