Cola's News Story
Check out Cola's Video
This sweetheart is our little Christmas miracle, Cola!
Cola's story was very sad before he came to Colorado. Cola was left alone in an abandoned house in Michigan for over a year. His owners were said to have come every 3-4 to provide just enough food and water to survive, but mostly Cola stayed alive by eating whatever he could, furniture, feces, books and anything else he came across.
In the year Cola remained isolated in his "home" he never went outside, not once. And while neighbors said he cried constantly no help ever came for him.
Cola was very close to the loosing his life when help finally did arrive, after neighbors picketing on the front line to get animal control's attention. Cola was just 45 lbs when he was finally saved, he should be a 65-70+ pound dog. Cola also suffered severe contact soars from lying on his own bones with no padding or anyting for comfort. He's also had to have many of his teeth removed from eating furniture to stay alive.
As if a year starving, lonely and completely isolated isn't bad enough, Cola was forced to wait in the city shelter for 8 months while his court case was pending and while his saviors fought hard to win his freedom and keep him from being euthanized as the local shelter there does not place pit bulls for adoption.
After such a long, hard road Cola has finally made it to safety in Colorado, thanks to some very kind people along the way. He's received a lot of vetting and has just started training. He's doing incredibly well now and is unbelievably happy and grateful. He's a very special, very loving dog. He's happy for the simpliest kindnesses and just so happy to have human interaction and to be well fed and cared for.
Cola has already proven to be friendly and playful with other dogs so our preference will be to place him with a compatible female doggie friend. Since he went so long without company and someone to play with this is a really wonderful thing for him. He is also living with cats now in his foster home and getting used to them so with supervision he would be able to live with cats. He is also stellar with all people and would be happy to have a family with gentle, easy going children, preferably over 6 years of age so they can understand how to be gentle and kind with Cola as he's still a little hand shy and is quick to think he's in trouble.
It will be an incredible gift to Cola and our entire group and all his rescuers when we see Cola finally find what he most wants and has never known, a real family and home of his own where he will be loved and cared for like he deserves.
If you are looking for your new best friend and someone special to spoil rotten then Cola is so totally your boy. Please come and visit him soon. |
