Dixie's story...
Dixie is approximately 1- 3 years old. She appears to have some lab in her, as well as Plott Hound and Boxer. She weighs about 65 pounds. She knows basic commands, but is very strong and needs to work on leash walking. she loves to run and would like an owner who will take her for a walk daily (on leash, of coarse). She rides well in a car and loves kids. We are not sure how she is with other dogs and cats, at this time. (She hasn't been around them.) Dixie is good at her foster mom's home and hasn't been at all destructive. She is looking for her fur-ever home.
Adoption fee is $125 (cash only)

About Our Rescue Group...
P.A.W.S. (Precious Animal Welfare Society) of Michigan is a 501 (c) (3), all-volunteer group that promotes the humane, compassionate, and responsible treatment of all animals. It is our mission to protect and care for homeless animals by placing them with loving foster families until compatible permanent homes can be found, and to engage in benevolent and charitable activities to support this goal. We are dedicated to lowering the number of animals needlessly euthanized each year in our community by promoting the spaying and neutering of all companion animals and in educating the public on the importance of responsible animal guardianship. Working in alliance with other rescue groups and animal welfare agencies we seek to develop a network of like-minded individuals who strive to eliminate animal suffering and create an animal-friendly community.

All of the animals in our program have received age-appropriate vaccines, and are surgically sterilized between 3 and 4 months of age. All cats/kittens are tested for feline leukemia and FIV, and dogs are tested for heartworm if they are old enough. The adoption fees for our animals help defray the cost of these, as well as any other required, veterinary services.

Come Meet Our Pets...
Adoptions are held each Friday evening at PetSmart Woodhaven (Allen and West Roads) from 6-8PM.

Adoptions are held each Saturday at PetSmart Canton (Michigan Avenue east of Beck Road) from 12-3PM. A selection of our adoptable cats is always available at this store during business hours.

P.A.W.S. also participates in other adoption events through the year. These events are posted on our website, http://www.pawsofmichigan.com.

Our Adoption Process...
Individuals interested in adopting one of our animals are requested to fill out an application (available at http://pawsofmichigan.com/Adopt.html). A volunteer will review your application and contact you ONLY if you are approved or if further clarification is required. We will make every attempt to contact approved applicants within 5 business days of application submission (M-F), but this will depend on the number of applications received.

Please understand that applying for an animal does not guarantee the adoption of the pet, nor are you obligated to adopt the pet.

P.A.W.S. adopts to homes that are best fits for our animals' needs, and not on a first-come, first-served basis. If you currently own a pet or have a history of pet ownership, you must provide a vet reference for your application to be processed. Preference is given to applications with prior pet experience and vet references.

Our fees are posted on our home page: http://www.pawsofmichigan.com

We Serve the Following Cities, Towns, and/or Counties...
P.A.W.S. of Michigan is an all-volunteer organization that serves the Detroit Metro area. We do not have a shelter; our animals are fostered in our homes with us until their permanent homes are identified.
