Ty Dozer is a 13-year-old puppy. This loveable black and white English Setter with a patch of brown above his left eye is the opposite of Ozzie (also available for adoption). Ty is full of energy and raring to go. With his age, he does have cataracts (his eyes are blue when he looks at the light), but his sense of smell is perfectly fine. He can find your food and shoes extremely well!

He is like a puppy, running around, licking and tasting everything, and then when he finds something, he takes off through the house with his prize before begging to go outside. (He has not attempted to bury anything yet!) He loves to be around you, and he will find a way to make it into bed. He prefers to sleep in the bedroom, and if you put him in his cage and he disagrees with you, he will huff. He is an extremely good dog, and he loves to attempt to help you eat your dinner. He will lean into you as his legs are a little wobbly at times and he will put his head in your lap when you sit down. He even can look like an English Bulldog at times when he turns his front legs out, and I call it chicken winging.

Ty has earned the middle name Dozer as he will plow through things to get to you, and he loves to come bounding down the hill of my backyard (and I pray he finds the brakes before he finds my legs). His original story when he came from the McLean Animal Shelter fire in Kentucky was that his elderly male owner died and the elderly wife could no longer care for him; I think it was more along the lines that she couldn’t keep up with him as he is energetic, loves to be outside watching the diesel trucks warm up in the mornings at the company that I live behind, and he longingly wishes he could go with the group of men standing around.

One funny thing that he does that I believe comes from his hunting days is that he will roll his head on the ground so that his white streak turns brown. It’s almost like he is attempting to stand on his head. To be his age, he is quite flexible and can even lick his belly through his front legs. He is a drooler as his jaws hang over his teeth and he is a bit on the thin side (believe me, he’s getting extra food too). He is willing to fight over a water or food bowl; on certain rare occasions, he and Ozzie have drink from the same water bowl, but I have stood guard. They sporadically fight when one thinks the other is getting more attention or if it’s in regards to food or water, which is typical in almost any breed of dog.

He was neutered at 13, but has no other issues as Ty gets along with my other three dogs and he even sniffs the others as if to say “Hey, who are you? What did you last get fed?” (see picture of him sniffing Lucy). If you consider adopting him, please be prepared for energy. Ty will crash when it’s time to sleep, but he likes to be up and in the middle of your activities. He is about 23 inches tall and 22-24 inches long (neck to beginning of tail). It’s like measuring a wiggling puppy. I tried to get some good pictures, but he was more interested in putting nose prints on the camera or getting a head rub.

About Our Rescue Group...
Mission Statement

Above and Beyond English Setter Rescue's goal is rescuing English Setters in need of new homes. While in our care the dogs will be vetted, spayed or neutered, and evaluated in foster homes, where they can learn love and
stability and we can determine which type of home would work best for each dog. Once adopted Above and Beyond volunteers will be available for the dogs and adopters for each dogs life, with advice and support. Our mission is
to put English Setters welfare first and foremost. We are a non-profit, charitable 501(c)(3) organization. 100% of your donation goes to help English Setters in need and is tax deductible.

Each home will be carefully screened to determine whether an English Setter is the correct choice. Home visits will be done as well as reference checks, no dog will be placed before it's time. Every dog rescued by Above and Beyond English Setter rescue will remain in our care until the correct match is found for that dog. English Setters in Above and Beyond's care will never be warehoused. Each dog will live in a home situation (no kennels or living outdoors) as either the ONLY foster dog or one of 2 foster dogs, so a true evaluation of each dog can occur before adoption.

We also will assist shelters housing English Setters by courtesy posting the dogs they have available and if the shelter agrees we will speak to potential adopters about the breed and help with screening.

For more information on our mission, or for assistance, please contact Michael Myers or anyone listed on our Contacts page.

Our Adoption Process...
When an application is submitted, you will receive a phone call and an initial review. The next step is to check your references and then a home visit will be scheduled, if you are approved through each of the prior steps. Every dog in A and B's program is available until an approved adopter speaks for that dog. No one can speak for any dog until they are approved and we do NOT hold dogs for anyone. We have had people who were disappointed that they did not get the dog they initially applied for, but the ones who hung in there with us would not change a thing now that they have their A & B Dog.

Please Note: You must be at least 21 years old to apply to adopt an A&B Setter. Incomplete applications will not be accepted. Signature is implied and assumed on e-mail & online Adoption Applications.

Above & Beyond English Setter Rescue will be raising its adoption fee to $245.00 on all applications received as of April 1st, 2007. We have made every attempt at keeping our adoption fee the lowest we could despite the rising costs associated with spaying and neutering, immunizations and other related routine care. In some instances our adoption fee’s never comes close to the care associated before an adoption of one of our dogs takes place. We do feel however that our adoption fee is still less then if the adopter had to pay these expenses out of their pocket. Also remember we include the first year of complete pet recovery protection for your dog with your adoption fee through Pet Shepherd.

Above and Beyond does have dogs in various areas of the country. Do not be discouraged if you are not in our core areas of PA, NJ, MD, DE, NY.See the link below for more information. Seniors and Special Needs dogs are usually less.
