Connie LOCAL's story...
Please do not let this precious dog be the first in the history of PAWS to spend a year in rescue...Connie came to PAWS New England on January 9th, 2008. That is right, she has waited to find a home for over eleven months and is about to celebrate her one year anniversary with us :(

We have recently discovered that Connie is not "dog aggressive", but "dog-picky." She gets along famously with her foster Mom's dog, but does not like the dog that lives upstairs. Her ideal new home with have her as the only dog or have another dog who is very submissive.

Aside from that- Connie is an extraordinary dog with the most amazing personality. Her foster Mom is desperately in love with her. Connie follows her everywhere around the house and is happy to do anything or go anywhere so long as it involves getting to hang out. She may be the friendliest people dog you will ever meet. Walks with Connie take forever because she has to greet each and every person with a kiss!

Connie is housetrained and is doing great in the house ;) Her current foster Mom struggled for a little while, because she simply could not keep Connie confined in the crate. Here is what she had to say (it made us laugh out loud!):

"Connie is much better on her own, which is good because I cannot keep her in a crate. I've had dogs that could get out of a crate before..but she baffles me. I have reinforced every side of the crate and she still gets out! (she knows when you are watching too)...So Connie stays out of the crate. She mostly is well behaved unsupervised..I KNOW she sleeps on my bed, but she's never there when I get home...and occasionally she chew something, most recently she got a hold of a book (she really likes shredding paper, which for obvious reasons I do not provide) and I came home to find hundreds of pages all over the floor. There were even some pages in Obies crate, so at least she shares."
Oh, Connie! She loves to play with her toys and lay on her comfy bed. More than anything, she loves to be pet and snuggled. If you want a great companion who will love you endlessly, then Connie is your girl!

The adoption donation covers all pre-adoption vet costs (vaccinations, spaying/neutering, HW test/treatment, etc.) and includes their transportation up to New England. PAWS New England is not shelter but a rescue and thus is not funded by any city or state organization - we rely solely on the donations of our adopters to help defray the costs associated with saving these precious lives. Unless otherwise stated, all of our dogs are located in Tennessee at our vet clinic's boarding facility or in foster care. If a dog is "local", that means he or she is at one of our foster homes in New England.

We know you are wondering, "Why would you charge ‘so much’ for a rescue pet? Why not just place it in a good home?" The answer is because we need adopters who are willing to support all rescue pets, not just the dog they adopt. A young, healthy dog might cost us $150-400 in (discounted) vet care, and many people will want to adopt it. An older one with health issues can easily cost $500-1500 in veterinary expenses, and it may require months of foster care for rehabilitation; yet we can only ask a minimal adoption fee, and it may be a long time until anyone comes forward to adopt it. Fees from the younger, more adoptable dogs help offset the cost of caring for the others. Most of our dogs have a sad story to tell, and some have suffered through years of neglect or abuse. We hope that you too are willing to give an opportunity for a better life to ALL of our dogs by supporting them through adoption fees. Without these funds, our rescue efforts would not be possible.

ALL KNOWN INFORMATION IS LISTED HERE. We do our best to give accurate information, but most of our dogs are rescues and don't come with a known history.

Please remember these are rescued dogs, not dogs coming from a breeder or behavior academy. They may have issues that can be worked with - we do our best to determine these ahead of time. Please do not expect them to be perfect. They are not, neither are we - that's why we love them so much!!!

About Our Rescue Group...
PAWS is comprised of a small group of volunteers from New England and Tennessee trying to reduce the euthanization rate (previously 90%) at the Tipton County Animal Control shelter in Brighton, Tennessee. This shelter is forced to euthanize thousands of animals each year due to irresponsible pet owners that do not spay/ neuter their dogs in the area. Millions of dogs in America are euthanized each year due to lack of space and lack of funding to try and find them better homes.

Our mission is to save as many animals as possible, removing them from the shelter, having their veterinary needs met prior to traveling and then finding them loving homes throughout New England. We do this only with the assistance of many people volunteering their time by going to the shelter, transporting the dogs to the vet, fostering dogs who need special care, and arranging for their new and happy homes in this area. Most importantly, we cannot do any of this without those people willing to open their homes and hearts to these lovely creatures.

Our Adoption Process...
All of our dogs have an adoption fee of $400. This includes a $275 donation to the animal hospital that provided their care and their $125 transportation fee.

All of our dogs arrive altered, up to date on shots, and receive medication and treatment for any problems that are present in the animal hospital. Families that adopt rescue dogs are entitled to one free month of pet insurance!

PAWS requires all adopters to complete an online application and provide either a vet reference or two personal references. All adopters will be required to sign an adoption contract and a rider stating their dog will be taken to a vet of their choice within 72 hours for a fecal exam.

Our plan is to begin microchipping our animals within the next few months.

We Serve the Following Cities, Towns, and/or Counties...
We serve all New England States except MA.
