Gabby's story...
Hello, my name is Gabby. I came to the shelter with my sister Zollie. We are sweet girls, only seven years old. We want to be adopted together. I'm a very friendly girl, a bit shy, but it won't take me long to open up to you. Our person had to give us up when she was forced to move to a smaller place. We miss her but are looking forward to meeting someone who will love us for who we are: the two best kitties in the world!

About Our Shelter...
Cat Care Society, a nonprofit organization, was founded in 1981 to improve the quality of life for homeless, injured, and abused cats in the Denver metropolitan area.

The Society's purposes are:

To sponsor educational programs that promote responsible pet ownership, humane treatment of all animals, and to reduce pet overpopulation.

To shelter cats in a healthy, cage-free environment and to provide compatible and responsible adoptions.

To provide community outreach programs that improve the quality of life for cats and people.

To be a friend to all cats.

The shelter provides a temporary refuge for up to 50 cats until an appropriate and permanent home can be found for each. Veterinary care, premium diet, and human interaction are lovingly provided.

Come Meet Our Pets...
Cat Care Society is located at 5787 W. 6th Avenue in Lakewood, Colorado. We are on the frontage road north of 6th Avenue, between Sheridan Avenue and Wadsworth Boulevard. It is easiest to access the frontage road via Sheridan Avenue.

CCS is open Tuesday (10:00 – 5:30), Wednesday, Thursday, Friday (noon – 5:30), and Saturday (9:00 – 3:30). The shelter is closed on Sunday and Monday.

Our Adoption Process...
If you are looking to adopt a cat, we encourage you to visit our shelter. There are no scheduled appointments at CCS – simply drop by during the shelter’s open hours.

When you visit the shelter seeking to adopt, a Shelter Assistant will greet you. They will ask you to fill out a “Cat Finder Assistance” form that gives an idea of the type of cat you are seeking. If you have children, we require they visit the shelter with you. Also, renters should come prepared with a copy of their lease indicating cats are allowed, or their landlord’s phone number so we can verify pet allowances.

Once you have found a cat that suits you – which may take more than one visit – a Shelter Assistant will have you fill out an adoption application. You will then go through the adoption process to learn more about the specific cat you have chosen and to review the adoption contract. Adoption paperwork usually takes about 30 minutes to complete and review.

Cats available for adoption at CCS have tested negative for feline leukemia and feline AIDS (FIV). They have undergone a physical examination upon entry into the shelter, and received distemper and upper respiratory vaccinations. All adoptable cats and kittens have been spayed or neutered. All cats and kittens leave the shelter with a 15-day health care assistance plan, a collar and ID tag, and an implanted microchip used to help return lost pets to their homes. We also provide a cardboard carrier to take the cat or kitten home.

Adoption Fees
Our adoption fees are:

$75 Adoption fee for one cat or kitten
$100* Discounted adoption fee for adopting a pair of cats (both cats must be one year or older)
$50 Discounted adoption fee for people 55 years or older who adopt a cat 5 years or older
* (There is no discount on adoptions where one or both cats are under one year of age.)
