'Num Num Num'
Hank was scheduled for euthanasia at a high-kill shelter because he was deemed 'not adoptable'. It was evident that there was something 'not right' with Hank's back legs. Almost Home Boxer Rescue didn't think that a sweet boy like Hank should die just because he can't do the high jump! So we took Hank and his sister Brook Lynne (already adopted) out of the pound. After a round of x-rays and complete blood-work, the vet determined that Hank has arthritis. Surgery is not an option for Hank nor is he in pain. We are treating with glucosamine/chondroitin as instructed by our vet. Hank's foster mom has started water therapy and he has trouble on slick floors at times so needs booties at times. Hank would love for his new home to have carpet (or a rougher floor) and no stairs. His booties will go to his new home if needed! Hank age is guessed at around 8YO and has adjusted very well in his foster home with his foster sisters. Hank is the ultimate ladies man; he prefers female companionship but does fine with submissive males. Hank doesn't do well with cats or small dogs; he thinks they are a chew toy. Hank is a laid back boy and always has a smile on his face. He enjoys his daily walks with his foster sisters and will play w/ a ball on occasions but the ball needs to be non-destructive type as he'll chew until it's in pieces. Hank is potty and doggie door trained. He sleeps on a dog bed next to his foster mom at night. Hank doesn't really like to swim so his water therapy is going slowly. He does like to go on the baja step of the pool so he can put his face underwater and always waits for his foster mom to give him permission to go in. He is such a silly and happy boy. DOGS: I DO NOT like small dogs...they are just too nervous for me and makes me want to eat them! I do best with females or submissive males. I can be an only dog. CATS: YUM! They taste like chicken. KIDS: I would be great with kids of all ages. But because of the arthritis in my back legs, I need to be in a home without little ones that will want to climb on me. HOUSETRAINED: I can do that! I am not a marker. OBEDIENCE TRAINING: I know how to sit, lay down and come when called, might take a few calls. Oh forgot, I can catch treat when thrown my way. CRATE SKILLS: I do not like the crate....but do not need to be. I am free roam in my foster home and have a doggie door to use. The best thing about a 'mature' boxer is that I am not destructive when left alone. LEASH SKILLS: I walk great on a leash except when something attracts my attention; I stop dead in my tracks and I become the Rock of Gibraltar. I get a sense this irritates my foster Mom. DROOL FACTOR: I will drool if a treat is held out in front of me otherwise not a lot of drooling from me. PERKS & QUIRKS: I am a VERY big boy. I weigh in around 80lbs....give or take. I'm tall and with a very big chest....not chub on me! I will need the trash can lock up because I can't help myself to look inside to see if there are any goodies in there for me to eat. I love to eat so I get very excited when it's feeding time and will smack my lips together, num num num, until my dish is down. HEALTH STATUS: Hank has had a complete overhaul! Bloodwork came back great! Tick Fever and Valley Fever negative. He's had x-rays on his back legs and he's got awesome hips but does have some awful arthritis in his knees. We cannot correct this....so Hank will need joint supplements and daily exercise to ensure that he stays supple. He also had a bunch of skin tags and gum overgrowth removed...he's got GREAT teeth! He does have one fatty mass (needle biopsied) that the vet opted not to remove....he didn't think it was necessary. Just like any 'older' dog, this may slowly grow over time, but the vet deemed it was not cancerous. Please visit Almost Home Az Boxer Rescue to submit an adoption application.

FAQ's:
Where is your facility? Can we come see your dogs? WE DO NOT HAVE A SHELTER OR BOARDING FACILITY. ALL OF OUR RESCUES ARE IN PRIVATE HOMES AROUND THE VALLEY. WE INVITE YOU TO ATTEND ONE OF OUR MONTHLY ADOPTION EVENTS IF YOU'D LIKE TO MEET SOME OF OUR RESCUES BEFORE APPLYING TO ADOPT.
Do you adopt out of the state of AZ? ABSOLUTELY! BUT ONE OF OUR REQUIREMENTS IS A HOME VISIT AND WE MAY NOT HAVE A VOLUNTEER IN YOUR STATE. PLEASE VISIT WWW.BOXERMAP.COM TO APPLY WITH A BOXER RESCUE IN YOUR AREA! ONCE APPROVED, IF THEY DON'T HAVE A MATCH FOR YOU, ASK THEM TO CONTACT US AND WE CAN SEE IF THERE MIGHT BE A MATCH TO ONE OF OUR RESCUES! When/where can we meet your rescues? WE HAVE ADOPTION EVENTS THROUGHOUT THE YEAR WHERE YOU CAN MEET THE RESCUES PRIOR TO FILLING OUT AN APPLICATION. SEE THE *EVENTS* SECTION OF OUR WEBSITE TO SEE WHERE WE WILL BE!
Any other way we can meet one of your rescues? IF YOU CANNOT ATTEND AN EVENT, YOU WILL NEED TO SUBMIT AN APPLICATION (FIRST STEP) AND RECEIVE A HOME VISIT (LAST STEP) - THERE ARE STEPS IN BETWEEN! ONLY APPROVED APPLICANTS WILL BE ABLE TO MEET OUR RESCUES OUTSIDE OF ADOPTION EVENTS...WE CHOOSE NOT TO DISRUPT OUR FOSTER HOMES WITH PEOPLE WHO ARE 'JUST LOOKING'.
Why does it seem that most of your dogs are 'pending' or 'adopted'? By the time I see a rescue I'm interested in and start to fill out the application, they are no longer available! IF YOU HAVE YOUR HEART SET ON A SPECIFIC RESCUE, YOU MAY HAVE YOUR HEART BROKEN. OUR PROCESS IS QUICK, AND WE HAVE A GROWING WAITING LIST OF APPROVED APPLICANTS. THOSE ON THE WAITING LIST GET TO SEE OUR NEW RESCUES BEFORE WE POST THEM FOR ADOPTION AND START TO TAKE NEW APPLICATIONS.
Can I apply for a specific rescue? ABSOLUTELY! IT'S HARD NOT TO FALL IN LOVE WITH THE PICTURES OF OUR RESCUES, BUT IT'S IMPORTANT TO KEEP IN MIND THAT NOT ALL DOGS WILL MATCH ALL HOMES - JUST LIKE ALL HOMES WON'T MATCH ALL DOGS. THE FOSTER HOME KNOWS THEIR RESCUE BEST AND WHAT TYPE OF HOME WILL BEST SUIT THEIR FOSTER. IF YOU HAVE SPECIFICS ABOUT COLOR, AGE, ETC. WE SUGGEST THAT YOU START THE APPROVAL PROCESS SO WE CAN FIND YOUR PERFECT MATCH!
