Cookie and her daughters Dorito and Dolly were abandoned in their carriers outside a rural animal control. Dolly was adopted at the shelter, but Cookie and Dorito ran out of time. Cookie doesn't fight other cats or cause trouble, but she would be happiest as an only cat. She's VERY attentive to humans and loves to nap in your lap, get kissed on the head and get petted and brushed. She's got perfect, girly manners and litterbox habits. She's not really the "brightest bulb in the socket," and she mostly likes to groom herself and look adorable. She loves being brushed so should have no matting problems if you just brush regularly. She had some extremely bad mats very tight under her chin that we had to have shaved off, so she's a little bare around there right now but she's still got plenty of fur, as you can see! She's quiet, sweet and all girly-girl.
Cat Rescue, Inc., saves cats slated for euthanasia at overloaded shelters. No cat is adopted out prior to spay or neuter. The home organization is based in Chesapeake, managing the pet center in the Petsmart at Greenbrier Mall, Chesapeake. Adoptions number approximately 500 per year. We are a 501(c)(3)nonprofit, ALL VOLUNTEER, home foster based, no-kill organization. All donations and contracts paid are submitted to the director of Cat Rescue, Inc., in Chesapeake, Va., and are applied to food and medical needs of cats and kittens under the organization's care. The organization is committed to accepting any cat adopted from us if the owner for any reason has to give up the cat, for the rest of the cat's life; in effect, we provide a "life insurance" policy for these cats so that they never have to end up on "death row" in a shelter again.

Come Meet Our Pets...
Currently we conduct adoptions at the new Petco in Chester at Hwy. 10 and Jefferson Davis, in Bermuda Square Shopping Center along with Starbucks, Shoneys and Ukrops (across from Friendly's on Hwy. 10 and across from Lowe's on Jefferson Davis), 1-7 Saturdays. Please call to confirm or to ensure the cat you want to see will be at the store that day, since we don't bring all the cats. We normally have cats no younger than six months old. All are spayed/neutered and have distemper and rabies shots, are wormed and tested for feline AIDS and leukemia. All live in our home, treated as companion pets and are not caged. All food and medical bills are paid by the foster family without reimbursement, so adopters are assured that their adoption fees go toward the care and well-being of cats in the organization, many who have staggering medical bills, or who are unadoptable and must be cared for throughout their lifetime by the organization. In general, the basic cost of vetting a normal cat without medical issues is $200-300, so the $75 adoption fee is far below what has been invested in each cat.
Our Adoption Process...
Our contract requires: No declawing (toe amputation) and indoors only. You'll complete an adoption contract and questionnaire, and a Petco adoption form. The adoption process takes less than an hour and your new pet can go home with you same day. Be sure to bring a carrier or plan to buy a carrier or Petco tote box for $6.99. Cost of adoption: $75, cash only, completely tax deductible and a letter will be supplied. If a pair are adopted, or a senior cat, a discount price will be available.
