Napoleon's Info...
| Breed: | Rhodesian Ridgeback Mix | Color: | Unknown | Age: | Young |
| Size: | Large 61-100 lbs (28-45 kg) | Sex: | Male |
I am already neutered, housetrained, a special needs pet, up to date with shots, good with kids, good with dogs, and good with cats.
Napoleon is a very beautiful dog. Rescued from a high kill shelter in NYC. (twice!) He was placed in a home but it did work out as the new owners were too rough with him and he reacted and back he went to the shelter. He is a very sensitive and somewhat reserved kind of a guy. Napoleon will thrive with a very gentle and soft spoken owner (s) who will give him the time he needs to trust again. He is not really shy... just cautious. (really he is bit silly and has been known to play with other dogs, but at first he doesn't want anyone to know) He is fine with other dogs. With patience and time...someone will be greatly rewarded and pleasantly surprised Right now he is residing In Frederick PA
Update Napoleon is epileptic, but easily managed with phenobarbitol twice a day
It seems that thunderstorms, foreworks and gunsshots can trigger the seizures.
Now that he is on meds he actually seems more realxed and calmer than before and no seizures!
He is fine with other dogs, likes kids and cats too. He is a gentleman with a siily side, but don't expect to see that side right away (and don't let him know that you know)

Rescue Group Info...
Red Hook Dog Rescue is not a shelter. We started off doing rescue and moved into training. (A Better Dog, Training and Consulting, APDT# 62321, Harriet is a certified trainer www.ccpdt.org) Our main objective is to help keep your dog in your home through training and management.
We tend to specialize in special needs dogs. we started with deaf dogs and now work with blind dogs and also blind deaf dogs. We love seniors too

We know this is not always possible, so we can help you re-home your dog. It would be ideal if the dog could remain in your home until a foster or placement is found, otherwise we require a financial contribution to cover boarding and medical costs.
We get to know our dogs very well and take great pride in matching the right dog with the right family. Fosters, volunteers, sponsors and contributions welcome Helps us help those who are really in need
Pets can be seen on the internet, and at a kennel in Brooklyn, and sometimes at a kennel in PA. Meetings are by appointment only.
There is an application to fill out. References are required. Once that is is completed, we do a home visit. Fees range from $200.00 -$250.00 (but we do make special considerations) All dogs are fully vaccinated, altered, micro-chipped and heartworm tested.
There is also an adoption contract to sign.We usually respond to inquiries within a couple days. If we do not respond, please write back it is never intentional.
We encourage you to take your time before adopting.
Several meetings, fostering.
If we don't have the right dog for you, we will help you find it
We get quite attached to our adoptees and encourage adopters to keep us posted on their new pet
New York City, all 5 boroughs, parts of PA, NJ, CT
We like to do or own home visits and therefore prefer to adopt to those within 2 hrs of nyc...............
but there are always special cases
