Adopt a Pet :: Moppet - Cole Camp, MO - Yorkie, Yorkshire TerrierMix

Moppet's Info...

Breed: Yorkie, Yorkshire Terrier Color: Silver & Tan (Yorkie Colors) Age: Adult
Size: Small 25 lbs (11 kg) or less Sex: Female

I am already spayed, housetrained, purebred, up to date with shots, and good with dogs.

Moppet's Story...
03-14-09 Moppett is said to be a 5 YO yorkie by the kill shelter she was pulled from. Moppett is not one of the little, tiny Yorkies that are so popular right now. Moppett weighs approximately 16 lbs. We will ask the vet to age her when her spay, dental & vaccinations are done & anything else Doc deems is needed.
A pic will soon be posted by the foster mom.

Note: Per one caller after seeing her picture the opinion is she may be a silky terrier, mis-identified by the shelter. Thus, the link to silky terrier to copy/paste and decide what you would like for her to be:

Moppett looks like a little dust mop, thus the name. Her vet work is being scheduled & she will need a make-over.

03-15 A visit with Susan & Moppett as picking up paperwork. Moppett is very friendly, fluffy, has a large mass on her tummy that is soft & squishy. We will let Doc give his expert opinion on the mass.
Susan will schedule her vet work, post an update after the exam.
Someone had to have dearly loved Moppett in the past due to her fluffy condition (well fed), her social skills. Life happens! She is now safe in rescue & will wait patiently for a fur-ever home.

We have placed this fur-kid in foster care with Susan.

The foster updates on his/her likes & dislikes will help you know if this fur-kid is suitable for your home.

The foster has a very important job, evaluating, loving, letting go to make room for another fur-kid at risk.

03-22 Moppett is such a sweet girl. I do think that she was a loved pet at some point in her life. Some nights she wants to get up in bed with me. When I put her up there she immediately finds a spot and lays down & goes to sleep & sleeps soundly all night.

We are asking for everyone to keep their paws crossed for Moppett.
She has a really bad cough. That could be any number of things..some major & some minor. We are, of course, hoping for this to be something minor. I have an appointment for her at our vet on 03-24 for a dental & possible spay (we are not sure if she is spayed or not - she will be spayed if she's not already). With this cough I don't think the vet will want to put her under for the dental & possible spay. I am going to call the vet first thing tomorrow morning to see if I can get her in tomorrow for the vet to check out this cough.
Please keep your paws crossed that it's something minor that some antibiotics will clear up.

03-22 An opinion from a reader on the breed of Moppett:
"I think Moppet is a silky not a yorkie despite what the shelter said. Her ears are not yorkie, they should be narrower and pointed. Moppet has bat ears, they are oval and then pointed. Either way she is adorable."

03-25 All those crossed paws must have worked. Moppett does not have any heart issues or bad lung issues that are causing her cough. Her heartworm test was also negative. Doc thinks it's just a chronic cough. She is on antibiotics & a bronchial dilator. We are all hoping these meds do the trick. I do think she is already coughing less & she's only been on the meds for a couple of days! So, do keep those paws crossed. Doc was not able to do a dental on her with her cough being as bad as it was. He does think that she was spayed in the past because she has a scar. That could also be a c-section scar but he doesn't think she's ever had puppies because her nipples are very small & not bigger from nursing puppies. We will wait & see if she ever comes into heat...if she does she will be spayed. Doc also did not want to give her her shots just yet. That will be done in a month or so after being on her meds. I sure hope for her sake that they give her more relief from her coughing. As I said, she is already doing SO much better.

This fur-kid is in our Senior Fur-ever & Always Program.
Our program is patterned after Love A Golden's Senior Life Program.

If you adopt this fur-kid, your original adoption donation is perpetual.
You may adopt another appropriate senior (10 years & older) fur-kid from us after this fur-kid passes to the Rainbow Bridge, becoming an Angel Dog.

03-29 A visit to check on the fostered fur-kids.
Moppett will return to Doc when the meds are finished. She may have allergies, eye gunk that needs cleaned out daily. Her cough is less, yet she still has a nagging cough. We hope she will be improved enough Doc is able to vaccinate her. She also needs a dental when the cough has cleared up. She will NOT be opened up as Doc does believe she is spayed. Since it appears she is not leaving rescue quickly the foster mom will alert us if she cycles, then we will be spayed prior to placement if her health permits it at that time.

Info. from Linda who read about Moppett:
"I just have to comment about cute little Moppett. I had a Yorkie (not a Sillky) that looks just like her, he weighs 5 lbs. and he is 9 yrs.old. He was stolen last September and I grieve for him as I had him since he was a baby. Anyway, I just wanted to say that my Yorkie, Scooter, coughed like Moppett does. It was made worse by allergies, like when he got into weeds, and after taking a drink, he would have a coughing spell. But all the secondary problems like allergies were made worse by his condition of a collapsing trachea.
Thanks for loving animals!"

04-11 Moppett had her visit to the vet for a check up on her cough. She is doing SO much better. She does still cough but NOTHING like she did at first. Doc even felt that she was so much better that giving her her shots would be OK now. He still is not positive if the scar on her tummy is from a c-section or a spay. We will wait to see if she cycles and not open her up just to see. Doc wants me to wean her off of the bronchial dilator. He's not sure if it is actually doing any good now that she has had that full round of antibiotics. We are to see if giving her less and then non of the bronchial dilator will make her start coughing really bad again. If she does start the bad coughing again then we will put her back on the meds. Doc did also say that he thinks she might be "10ish" - close to 10 years old - maybe a bit more - maybe a bit less.
I also think she is housebroken. I've not caught her "in the act". She will come to me and whimper and if I'm not paying attention then she will bark. I ask her if she needs to go out and as soon as I get up out of my chair she RUNS for the door. She is such a sweet, sweet girl!

About Our Rescue Group...
We are a small, foster home based rescue, licensed by the Mo. Dept of Agriculture in June 2004. We specialize in senior dogs.

We also offer Hospice care for dying dogs as space permits.

This site is dedicated to Max, rescued by Carolyn, and Lady, rescued by Connie. Both were senior dogs that were in kill shelters and were "Naturals" when visiting the care center. Because of them, this rescue was born.

We handle no more than two large senior dogs at a time. All of the dogs are completely vetted including but not limited to altered, vaccinated, dental & microchipped before being placed for adoption.

Most, yet not all, visit care centers to become familiar with medical equipment. The goal is to get the senior pets into senior homes or non-senior homes with a low energy lifestyle.

Our goal for 2007 is to have a few small dogs, under 25 lbs., 1 to 6 years of age, in our foster homes. These small dogs will be closely observed for 2 weeks before being adopted out. This will allow us, hopefully, to notice and care for any medical problems or behavior problems that may arise. Their adoptions will help provide funds for the special needs of the large senior dogs that wait longer to find that special fur-ever home.

We are working on the Mighty Mutt Youth Program. This program will focus on small, young mixed breed dogs that are good with children. After all, how will children get experience with dogs unless they have a first pet? We need to educate the young people of today to make the future better for the dogs of tomorrow.

Mixed-breed dogs make excellent pets and lifelong friends. As a general rule, they enjoy better health and temperament than purebred animals. Unfortunately, a great number of these wonderful pets await their KILL DATE in shelters around the country. They are often not adopted because they are not a purebred dog. Thus, many are DESTROYED! The goal of the Mighty Mutt Youth Program is to change that by:

1. Locating kill shelter dogs that interact well with other animals and children

2. Rescuing these young dogs before they are killed and get them to the veterinarian

3. Uniting the right family with the right Mighty Mutt

4. Educating the young person and his/her family with guidelines for responsible pet ownership and proper preventative care for pets

We operate solely on donations. We can always use towels, sheets, baby blankets, shampoo and grooming supplies. For those of you that love to garage sale and shop in thrift stores, we could use gently used collars, leashes, bowls, any pet supplies. You may mail them to the address shown below. Your donations will be used to save the lives of pets and provide veterinary care.

In 2009 we became a 501 (c) 3. Your donations are tax deductible to the extent allowed by law.

We send a monthly newsletter and will be glad to add you to our list. We will also send a year end financial statement upon request. We do not pay for advertising or salaries. We have wonderful volunteers providing foster care, assisting with care center visits with the pets, computer work and fund raisers. The young children who volunteer today to help with the pets will grow up to be animal lovers and advocates. We have an obedience instructor willing to work with you so that you may keep your dog. Word of mouth in a small town spreads like wildfire. Folks love old dogs. We truly adore ALL the volunteers!

Come Meet Our Pets...
We are in a rural area five miles from historic downtown Cole Camp. Some of the pets may be in foster homes. We do not have a kennel as all of these pets live in a home environment. We are open 7 days a week by appointment.

Cole Camp is located in Benton County. Cole Camp is southeast of Kansas City about 2 hours, northeast of Springfield about 2 hours and southwest of Columbia about 2 hours. Cole Camp is located on 52 Highway, a short drive from Truman Lake and the Truman Dam. Please check out Cole Camp at www.colecampmo.com There are many places to visit while in the area looking for a pet, and some of the businesses are downright pet friendly. The Harris Guest House is a B&B which encourages well behaved pets to spend the night.
Our Adoption Process...
Our goal is to find the right placement for each pet. We never want them to be hungry or unwanted again. We will answer every question to the very best of our knowledge and always be honest when it comes to the animal's suitability for a home. We want to make sure that you get the pet that will suit your special needs and that you will be able to meet the special needs of your pet.

Senior citizens and disabled receive a discount.
