Panther has been with me for 3 weeks now & has really blossomed into a fine pet. She has become much more comfortable with herself & the world around her. I took her to her first adoption event & she behaved beautifully. She’s a pretty dog & cleaned up very nicely once we got her bathed & put her on medication for the sores on her body. Now we just have to get her to like the water (she hates the bath). She likes to be with her "person" & is more interested in people rather than other dogs. She’s 68 lbs. & it’s neat to watch her make progress day by day. She still has a ways to go, but she’s a much different dog than the 1 we pulled out of that garage. Panther is a shy girl who was covered in filth & had burns all over her feet while her nails look like talons (her owner "couldn't find the clippers"). We couldn't understand what the owner was calling her, so I asked him if her name was Panta or Panda. He said, "Pantha, like the jungle cat". It was the only time I laughed while I was there. Panther is the shyest of them all & needs a patient place. She bonds very quickly & is probably best suited for a quieter home. Once she locks onto you however, she stares in your face with her luminous eyes & you just melt. She’ll need a little time to get used to just being a dog. She likes chicken Carvers (but not crazy about the beef flavor). All these dogs lived in horrid conditions & needed to be removed a.s.ap. Their "home" was a air-conditioned garage in plastic kennels with absolutely no air circulation. The stench was nauseating & the dogs got next to no socialization. They’re all timid, but we see no aggression - they just need to be shown how to be a dog. They do have nice temperaments; they were just horribly neglected & never shown any love or affection. They lived in their plastic kennels all day & night & that is all they knew. They’re 3 yrs. old & it’s time to get them outside in a yard where they will have the chance to experience life on the 'outside'. They were absolutely filthy & the first thing they got after being 'sprung' was a good bath at KatandK9 in Brick, NJ. Most of them have sores on their legs & lower bodies from sitting & laying in their own urine since they never got out of their kennels. The owner had some grandiose plans of "showing" these dogs to make them 'champions', yeah, right. He was telling me how much their 'bloodlines' can fetch on the open market & I asked, "what good is that if the dogs are left to sit in their own urine & feces all day and night?” I got no answer. I am still stunned by what I witnessed that day. The most shocking thing is that the owner didn't think he was doing anything wrong. All I wanted to do was hug these guys & tell them that they were going to be safe now, but I couldn't promise them that. Plus the fact that they were so filthy, that it was difficult to even touch them, (we left & went straight to a public restroom to wash the stench off ourselves). Please open your hearts & wallets to help us help these poor dears. They only know the inside of a dark, damp & dreary place. Let's work together to bring some sunshine into their lives. All Star Pet Rescue is an all volunteer, non-profit, no-kill organization formed in April 2006. We don’t have a facility & are comprised solely of foster homes for homeless pets. Our mission is to network with other shelters & rescue groups to take in animals needing a new start. We don’t discriminate based on breed, age or health status & only place the animals in loving & responsible homes. We also work to educate the public about the benefit of spaying or neutering their animals & the usefulness of micro-chipping.
We receive no public funding & count on animal lovers to help provide the medical care & supplies necessary for the health, safety & comfort of our rescues. Monetary donations are always needed & greatly appreciated. It’s because of monies donated that we’re able to continue our work for the animals. We’re a recognized 501c3 organization so your donations are tax deductible.
All of our animals are in foster homes, but they can be seen on certain days at Pet Valu in the Kings Shopping Center at 300 South Ave. in Garwood. Check our websites for the dates that we're there at www.allstar.petfinder.com.
Our Adoption Process...
We do have an adoption fee which goes right back to the animals for food, medical treatment, etc. Yo do have to sign a contract. We also do have certain requirements when placing our animals, some are general & some can be based on the situation.
We Serve the Following Cities, Towns, and/or Counties...
We mostly serve the areas around us, but have served out of the area.
