Lilly and Sara are former breeder dogs who were specifically used for breeding. They were kept in cages all their lives and are now enjoying their freedome here at 2nd Chance. They are approximately 8-9 years old and, like many puppymill dogs, suffer from many health issues. Sara has a skin condition as you can see from the photo. We have given her medicated baths once a week and let her hair grow out and she has improved quite nicely. She also suffers from 'dry eye' syndrome and requires ointment as needed. She also suffers from luxating patellas and requires medication to ease the pain so she can shuffle around...and she likes to shuffle! She always has a smile on her face and the tail is always waggin! We keep thinking that she will just take off one of these days the tail gets to going so fast. She just loves her freedom and the great food here. She has had most of her teeth pulled and some have just fallen out, but she loves her food.
Lilly is a bit more reserved than Sara, but she has learned that freedom is pretty cool. She has been diagnosed with an irregular heartbeat, so we have decided not to spay her at this time. Whenever Sara is getting attention, she finds it necessary to head butt Sara to get her own attention, but she does not actively seek attention as Sara does. She is quite content in her 'safe' spot on her little pet bed. When we seek her out, often she will run away and duck her head when we try and pet her, but she does allow us to pet her. She also suffers from the 'dry eye' so usually when we medicate one, we medicate the other and both are troopers. She also has had many teeth removed and aside from the irregular heartbeat, seems to be in better overall health. They both like to be in a lap and will settle in on each side.
These girls came in together and have formed an attachment to each other and must be adopted together. It would be too stressful on their tired little bodies to separate them at this point. They also need to be adopted into a home where they can receive undivided attention as they do require a lot of medical attention. They do like to get outside and run around, so a fenced in yard is required. If you are up for the challenge of these two awesome girls, please email 2ndchanceanimalrescue@embarqmail.com or call 660-885-3931 for more information. A vet reference is required prior to consideration for adoption.
Our adoption fee ranges from $75 to $200. Puppies, in general, will be adopted at a higher fee because we feel that we have provided you with a companion for many years to come at very little expense to you. The fee will also help our special needs dogs receive the medical care they desperately need.
When inquiring about a dog you are interested in, please provide your vet's information as well as information about you and why you are interested in the dog. Many of our dogs come from less than desirable situations and the more information you can provide will help us ensure that any dog that leaves our care will receive the same care in his/her new home.
We do not make guarantees that any of our dogs our housetrained. We do work with them as best we can, but even if we have no accidents, it will take a new dog a couple of weeks to adjust to your routine. We also do not leash train as we like for the new owner to bond with their new dog and work with them to create a level of trust with their new dog.

Rescue Group Info...
We are 5 ladies that volunteered at the local shelter. They have a contract with the city to only take in stray animals within the city limits. There are no policies in place to accept owner surrenders or dogs that have been dumped outside the city limits. We created 2nd Chance to fill that void, because we saw needless euthanization of healthy animals because their owners could no longer take care of their beloved pets. We truly love dogs and want to find the right dog the right home.
Puppies and dogs 6 years or less are $125 - $250
Senior dogs are adopted for $75
We do have an adoption contract for each adopter to fill out and sign.
A vet reference, and in certain circumstances, a personal reference is required prior to consideration for adoption. Circumstances requiring a personal reference include, but are not limited to, a special needs dog, a puppymill dog or a dog that came from an abusive situation.
We serve the Clinton Missouri and surrounding area in Henry County, although our adoptions have been known to reach the state of Maine. There is no distance to great to find the right dog the right home!
